Standard ECU learing bollocks.
Right I'm kind of sick of this **** now and people have it stuck in thier minds about this, so here we go:
I have had alot to do with standalone ecu and standard engine managment from my other cars. These were french but I know ecu's work on the same basics, so work different to others.
So heres the problem and I would like feedback from what other people have found aswell.
If you buy a car that is running a standard ecu and it has been mapped for say 100octane fuel and you run it on some thing lower i.e 93, does the ECU "learn" and adjust ignition timing before it starts to register det or pinking due to the reduction in octane???
It kind of pisses me off that some people think their ecu is an ecu that makes its own fuel and ignition map up real time.
I know some standalone ecu's do map themselves via wideband but I'm talking standard ecu's here.
Another thing is:
When adding simple mods like filter and exhaust, from experience the ecu will adjust the AFR's via the narrowband lambda upto a certain point for the increased airflow but at WOT the ecu reverts back to the base map it was programed for.
Bit of a rant but hopefully people can have their say about this.
