Standalone help...please

A friend of mine (damn you SPO autos) has pretty much talked me into going standalone with the new rebuild on my TII. That's where I need help guys.

I know nothing about this sort of thing, other than its more tunable. I know that ill have plenty of support from here on the forum as far as maps go.

What standalones would you guys reccomend. Haltech? Im mainly looking for bang for the buck, and something I can learn easily. Also, would buying used be safe?

Any info you guys can shoot my way would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks.

Mechanical OMP, Electrical OMP, or pre-mix?

Drag racing or road racing?

Boost controller required, or do you already have one?

You always take a chance when buying used. The ECU could be defective or stolen, and the wiring harness may have shorts or bad sensors. Then again, you could get a really good deal. It's up to you.

If you don't know much about how an ECU works, then it would be better to have it installed and tuned by a professional.

pre-mix, bit of both, manual boost controller.

While I dont know much about the ECU, Im semi-intelligent , and would rather learn it, than just pass it off.

In that case, the Microtech MT8 would probably be your best bang for the buck. There's no point in paying extra for fancy 3D boost controllers, MOP controllers, ABS controllers, etc. if you don't need it.

BTW, the installation and tuning of an EMS has more to do with experience and education as opposed to intelligence.

And what a better way to get experience and education than to read up on it via the forum and dive right in!
