Safc test from the box...

I now have a safc2 I purchased off of ebay. I'm just wondering if there is a way to safely supply power to make sure it works?

ground to - battery
power and switched to + battery

There is a power up screen - it should work.
If the power up sequence doesn't work, something is wrong.

You can use your car battery if you want.
