SC Question in regard to older Haltech - 8989TII

I have an 89 TII that I need to bring back up to working condition. Background: I have had the factory turbo rebuilt by a rebuilder down in Alabama, several years ago. I will need to reinstall that as its just been sitting in its box. That said, my question revolves around the engine management function and this stuff is from about 2010-11. It is a Haltech Platinum Plus 2000 ECU (Worth over $1200 new!!), tuned by an outfit called Rotary Reliability and Racing and the previous owner state sit made 310 hp at the wheels at 11 PSI. It has AEM water injection coming on at around 7 psi.

Now, I have had an 88 convertible since 1999 so this is my first TII and it will be a challenge to get it back up to running condition as its been sitting since 2012. Luckily, the previous owner put a lot of money into it in terms of new parts so I luck out there.

Question: Is this Haltech still a modern unit or do I need to update it...and if I do, can I do this myself based on the previous install or is this more something fro a professional tuner???

Haltech has newer ecus since the platinum, but IMO the platinum is fine. its new enough that it does everything you need. the newer ones have a couple of nice features, but they aren't must haves.

Thank you for your considered response. With this ECU, will they work with a Mac or do these managements systems generally require a PC?

i don't know. its all windows software, but i bet you could get it to run on a mac. we usually end up with some cheap old laptop that has nothing on it except the haltech software

Thank you. I'll try the Mac. If not, I'll use a dedicated PC that I use for VW sorting, VCDS. I forgot about that PC!
