PFC vs. Haltech vs AEM
I am looking to buy a new management system for my car, but I am unsure about which to buy. It seems like the haltech has more capabilities than the PFC, but most people seem to have the PFC anyway, and as for the AEM system, do you need a laptop as well???Can anyone help me out and describe why you might buy each one?
Please do a search or read through the ECU forum for posts on this.
My 2cents:
PFC: Has a few issues (A/C, idle stability) on some cars, but overall works well. Can be simply plugged in, replacing the stock ecu (have to pull 4-pins on the PFC). It can be tuned with the Commander or with a laptop using the separate Data-logit, which is a very good set-up.
Haltech: Higher resolution than the PFC but also requires a much more intensive install (new sensors, harness wiring, removal of OMP--must premix). Requires a laptop for tuning. Software is shitty DOS. Datalogging not as good as PFC+data-logit. More expensive than PFC.
AEM: No one is using it because the base map is ****. Almost no support from what I've seen so far. High resolution though and it is just plug-in. Don't know about the data-logging features though.
The bottom line is to get something that a "local" rx7 tuner works with. Or you can fly Steve Kan (Gotham Racing) in to tune any ecu you have...
