My TEC III shipped today!
I am thrilled to announce that my Electromotive TEC III shipped today! I can hardly wait! My TEC II was sent back for repairs after it was damaged when my car was rear-ended. Instead of repairing it, I opted to upgrade instead of sinking money into the old box -- although I need to see if insurance would have covered it. Doubt it. I'll be sure to post details in my usual routine as they become available to me. Here's the cost for those interested:
$1850 TEC III ECU
$ 160 Unterminated 5ft harness
$ 112 4-Cyl DFU's (Direct Fire Unit) (2) Required for a 2-Rotor
( A single ECU will run a 3-Rotor with (2) 6-Cyl DFU's! )
Total $2234
I am sure we will be selling these for nearly $200 off of that amount as soon as I install one and verify that it is everything it promises to be!
My TEC II had a number of custom external devices that I had built to accomplish my strange demands, but the new unit will do everything that I was before inside one clean box. Oh, this is going to be so much fun! On top of the above, you will also require a trigger wheel and pickup -- which is a single pickup now instead of the old fixed offset dual pickup. The unit uses standard GM MAP, MAT, and CLT sensors just like the TEC II, of course.
The TEC III has 4 GPO's, which means full feedback control of wastegate, multiple stages of nitrous with 4 stages of retard, etc, etc. The rev limiter is immensely improved, which is a godsend for rotary tuners -- the old limiter was VERY harsh. You also have the option of using third party coil packs, which opens a wide range of possibilities.
I'll try to install it as soon as it arrives so I can post some objective feedback. This one is going on the single turbo 13-B Bridgeport with nitrous, which has proved to be very touchy to tune. It will be a great test bed for the new computer. More info to follow...
