Minor mods = Massive overhaul?

Hey guys,

Ive currently just got a 1987 NA RX7, I do however have a pal who is selling his turbo drivetrain for rather cheap (needs a rebuild, worry about that later).

Plans seem to be to Rebuild, Fat StreetPort, and a bigger turbo. However several people have told me that simply doing those mods would require new injectors, fuel pumps, regulators, and computers...etc

Curious to you guys' expressions on these comments, and is it going to cost a rediculous amount just to bump the turbo's power up?

Thanks a lot guys,
Spence

Any help? I hear about running a Megasquirt system, but I dont know do I replace my stock Turbo ECU with the new Megasquirt or is it an addon? Im trying to make in the neighborhood of 400whp, but on a rather strict budget doing a lot of my own work

Let me know you guys' input please, I have to buy something before christmas break when I have free time hehe

Thanks,
Spence

With the right configuration, the Megasquirt can replace your entire ECU. I've also heard of people using the stock ECU to control timing, while putting the injectors under control of the MS. There are a lot of options depending on the MS you buy, and how you set it up.

well.. if you rebuild the tII motor yourself that will cost a little, depending on what parts you need for your rebuild. then you have to do the work. or you could ship it to kevin landers and get one of his $1000 rebuilds. the megasquirt is a DIY standalone ecu. it cost about $250 unassembled. you would have to build it yourself, which is not very hard and there is plenty of documentation for the rx7. this will replace the stock ecu. you can also buy them assembled but i dont know if you can get it setup for an rx7. if you go with a megasquirt there is no real use in haveing the stock ecu control timing. for 400 hp you will need a better fuel system.
