Mallory Hyfire ignition box *caution*
I recently installed a hyfire 6a box on my 440 dodge, I had wired it in a fashion that should it fail, I could easily switch back to my stock ignition...
After install, the truck Pinged and Knocked at idle, I found the timing jumped 50 degrees advanced at idle , I wired back to stock ignition, timing at 14 deg, back to hyfire 6a, 64 degrees advance....
If that was a rotary, that engine would now be toast......
To hear a 440 chrysler sound like sledge hammers are wacking the block is something else..
I contacted mallory tech support, their only answer was that wiring diagram for the triggers in their instruction sheet was wrong for the chyrsler 2 wire ignition, which was not the problem, since I had caught that error before install by actually reading the MSD 6a instructions that I had in my tool chest , and wired it properly, after I told them that, they gave me the "Well I don't know"...
I returned the mallory box to the retailer, and traded it for another one, which proved to work actually pretty damn good, I get more vacuum with less advance now, truck starts very well for a carbed vehicle, throttle response is alot more crisp as well, so in the end the benefits are there, its a gamble though first time you turn the key..max
