m2 ecu vs pettit ecu
m2 ecu vs pettit ecu
hi all well i just bought my exhaust and downpipe so im looking into an ecu replacement. could someone give me any information on these ecus. i heard the pettit is very easy just drop it in and drive but the m2 you will have to keep sending it back for reprogramming with additional modifications. Im just wondering what are the disadvantages and advantages of both. any information would help. thanks

I got the Pettit Unlimited ECU and love it. You can just drop it in and go. No maps to play with, nothing to mess up... *blow up*
Its good enough for low 11's, 10's etc. It really depends on what you want to do with the car. If you want to go single turbo, then you need to go with a Haltech, Power FC, ie, a stand alone. Im not knowledgable enough to play around with maps, fuel curves, etc. So, in a nutshell, first ask yourself what you want to do with the car. Also another factor to think about is how much money you want to spend. $699 for a Pettit or $1149+ for a stand alone. Both have advantages and disadvantages. For now, i like the plug and play and don't have to worry about gremlins popping up at unexpected times!!
Hope this helps

with the mods that you have I would go with the Power FC. You don't have to get the commander with it and Jason from the RX7 store charges around $820 or $830. It comes with a base program for intake, downpipe, and exhaust and raises your boost to 12 lbs. You just plug it in place of your stock and go. It eliminates the 3000 rpm hesitation that you probably have and adds 25-30 hp out of the box. Mine is on order now but I've heard many good things of this ECU over Pettit's or M2's because it has a 16 bit processor rather than a 8 bit processor. Good Luck!

M2 has pretty much stopped doing the 'staged' ECUs. They just have one like Pettit and the rest of them. So you don't need to keep sending the ECU back for reprogramming with each mod. Although you will have a better fuel and timing curves if the ECU was 'mapped' for you mods.

Pettit ECU will run a MP, with M2 a MP is not recommended.
Love my Pettit ECU.

I have a Pettit unlimited now and will be going to a Haltech. If your interested make me an offer. I will not be removing it for a few weeks and then it will go on Ebay with some other parts, like my OMP.

I am looking at an upgraded ecu and dont really understand the fuel curves and I am way to afraid of screwing something up. The pettit is going to be my choice I only have to find one. RX Steve, if you will email me at striker_2453@hotmail.com we can discuss prices. Otherwise I will be looking at eBay.

All modified one are done with G-force chips.
I have an original G-FORCE ECU set-up for the richest fuel map, or as u would call it unlimited. I want $ 550 shipped to you door an u keep your stock one.
Anybody wants E mail me privately at: DAN.WTF.TKD@USA.NET
Thanks, DAN

If you dont have the full reguired modds for a unlimited chip 14.7 psi what boost will you run? Is it dependent on youre modds so if you only have Intake ,DP,Cat back you will max out at 12 psi?
Thats a good question, I was thinking the same thing. Can you get the ECU done and after add a couple Mods your missing without any problems? I guess the M2 one will just turn up the Boost and add fuel and maybe change the timing curve around. But what exactly is it dependant on? I cant see how it wouldnt still boost a bar of boost or give the same amount of fuel needed with out without the mods present. May even boost higher if they engineer it for some pressure drop with a bigger Intercooler but I dont see how it would matter otherwise. I am going to Call M2 tomorrow and find out if now one knows.

so if you have the Pettit Unlimited, and want to run lower than 14.7 psi, like about 12, do you have to get a manual or electronic boost controller?? cant you just tell them to tune everything and keep it at a solid 12??
also, if you have a manual boost controller set at 12 and are running a mid-pipe with the stock wastegate (not ported), will you get bost creep???
thanks.

I think the Pettit ECU is the way to go if you want to mod the car with the stock twins and don't want to worry about tuning for every mod. I've had mine for some time now and I think it's great. I have uprgraded basically everything on my car, even a ported engine and the car runs perfectly. I have an A/F gauge installed and it always stays far down on the rich side even at 13-14-15psi of boost. I accidently had the boost creep to 20psi once and it still wasn't running lean, then it went past 20 and.... Anyway I think it's a great upgrade, but it doesn't remove the rather annoying 3K hesitation like the PFC does(only downside). For the money you can't go wrong. Btw if you get the "unlimited" you can run whatever boost you want as long as it's not over 17psi(supposedly but it's higher). If you want to run 12psi with it, just set your boost controller to 12 and you're done.

If you want to run larger injectors, I would suggest you use an APEX Super AFC to fine tune it. It works if your upgraded injector is not 50% more than the original size and it will only work if your boost limiter is taken off by the ECU programmer.

Why not just put an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator/new pump in it? That way, as the boost increases, so does the fuel psi. Would'nt this work, if you where running slightly lean? CJ

It will work but you will probably have a few lean spots and a few rich spots through out the run. Using the injector duty cycle to control fuel is much better than using rising fuel pressure regulator. You probably still need to use the super afc or another electronic device to fine tune it.
