Home-brewed traction control?
Has anyone tried building a traction control system similar to the Racelogic? The system is based off the different wheel speeds read by ABS sensors, that doesn't seem that complex... Anyone got any opinions?

What will end up taking time is: the fuel cut strategy to reduce power, and the algorithm for determining how much power to cut based on the driver's slip settings, and the current wheel speeds.
You could build hardware to do this for relatively cheap (< $500), but you'll spend most of your time writing and testing the software.

A few friends of mine are thinking about building a car for Grassroots Motorsports $2008 challenge and we were brain storming. I think we could do the hardware for well under $100 since we were thinking about making it out of a big *** microcontroller (PIC 18F-series or something) which should have plenty of A/D and PWM capable inputs. As for the reducing power strategy, we were thinking cuttin ignition would be a little safer... plus we might be using a carb motor with an ignition box.

from what I understand, how it was explainded ot me traction control basicly works like anti lock braking in reverse. So when a computer senses wheel slippage, ie 1 wheel sensor spinng faster than speedo or all other wheel sensors the computer applies pulsed braking force to that wheel or wheels thus creating traction control. Should not be to hard to make if your already equipped with abs
