Help! I Need to buy a wideband.

I have searched and read a few threads but just thought I would also ask were and which wideband and part number do I need to run with mt PFC to datalog?? I would also like to get this pretty quick. I ahve looked at both techedge and FJO's web sites and they both offer many kits. Not sure what one I need. I thank you for any help.

I like the LM-1 and it hooks right up to the datalogit without any modification. Another good thing about the LM-1 is it reads A/F ratios below 11.0:1.

just hi-jacking a little, but along the same lines. when shopping for a wideband how low should it be able to read? I would think as long as it reads down to 10:1 it would be ok. Am I correct in assuming this?

I'll vouch for the LM-1 also. Very nice unit, with loads of features. But to be fair, the downsides of it are that it's very large, and you also have to turn it on and off everytime you start the car, unless you do some fancy wiring.

jpandes, I had tried to mount mine permanently in my car and it has already quit working after only two months. Were you driving in very cold weather? Apparently the moisture in the exhaust on startup is causing the ceramic in the sensor to crack, for a lot of us LM-1 guys... Made me start wondering what the feasibility is of even running a wideband all the time like I had originally intended.

True, True.

I don't run mine all the time. I'll plug it in and monitor A/Fs from time to time or do some fine tuning, but then remove it. Just because of the things you stated.

Is it usually a long wait to get the tech edge since it comes from AU? Also, Is there a way to read the WB off the commander or only while logging? Another words will I need another display to show readings while driving?

I thought about the innovative until I saw how HUGE they are..

I bought a Tech Edge WB2 a couple months ago. It took about 7 days to receive from the date of payment. I am very happy with it. The unit's construction is first rate, the datalogit wb readings (using the 5v output and ground reference out) are virtually identical to those I get from the unit's software, they have very good/responsive tech support, the software is very intuitive, and there is a large Yahoo user group to bounce ideas off.

I think I was one of the first FD guys running the LM-1. I ended up returning it because I kept getting a "sensor error" because the sensor over heated. I never did get the to use it to datalog my AFR's with a datalogit. I beleive that Innovate made changes to their firmware to fix this by now. The unit was pretty big, like a really fat paperback book. On the plus side it was portable.

I then bought the techedge 2.0 that was preassembled using the Bosch 6022 sensor($29). I installed it permanently with the AFR display and things have been fine for over a year. I'm in SF, CA so it doesn't get below 50 degrees. I tuned my car using it so I guess it's ok. 316 rwhp/260 ft/lbs @ 13-14 psi.

I'm using the LM-1 wired permanently in my FD and it's been running fine for a couple months now, though the car is not my daily driver. The wiring might be a little fancy but not too bad, but then again, I didn't follow Innovate's instructions, either. Setting up logging has been a snap with the datalogit too. I recommend it.

I agree the box is big, I didn't realize how big it was until I had it in my hand. FWIW, it's mainly empty space inside so I was thinking about putting it into a different case. That's low on my list of projects right now, though.

LMFAO. Sorry I couldn't resist. That's hilarious.

Anyhow, I've the LM1 too. Great unit, but I don't use it all of the time either. They're releasing a 52mm digital display.gauge for it as well that looks to be an elegant soluton vs the "big box"

Just to add a few more things...

The Innovate gauge for the LM-1 will still require the LM-1, unlike the AEM gauge, which was a self-contained unit. I also personally wouldn't recommend the AEM to anybody. I could never get a usable signal to work with the datalogit. Well, actually I recommend it as long as you'd like to buy my old one from me....

Also, Innovate has plans to release a much smaller version, which probably won't datalog, aimed at the motorcycle crowd. So if time isn't a factor, and size is (no jokes!), then you might wait and check out Innovate's next offering. Even though I've already had a sensor problem, I don't attribute that to being their fault since they don't make the sensors. I still really like being able to program the outputs (which is perfect for not worrying about polynomials in the datalogit, and running any gauge including a plain old voltmeter if you want...), and you can also use either Bosch or NTK sensors if you choose.

However, I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the current breed of widebands out there. Everyone seems to like the one they're using. Well except me and my AEM but I won't get into that...

2 things to note:
1. Newer LM-1 firmware does not shut down on an overtemp situation, just reports it.

2. The LM-1 AFAIK is the only sensor that actually bothers to tell you if you have put the sensor in a region where it is no longer accurate. So with your techedge unless you have moved the sensor OR fitted a heatsink you will still be overheating it and not knowing. The LSU 4 sensor is VERY sensitive to heat, so if you are overheating you are out on your AFRs to the point where the investment in your meter is worthless.
