Arrow ECU: Microtech or Power FC (Single Turbo Application)

I was all set to purchase a Power FC, since they seem to be going for great prices nowadays and from what I've heard/read they're quite user friendly and just a good overall standalone ECU.

Now, A-spec is building me a turbo and I'm also going to have them tune my car. The problem is they recommended I go with a Microtech for a couple reasons. One, it's just much simpler to tune for them and they said they would do a much better job of tuning it effectively. Second, the Microtech ECU comes with a brand new engine harness, which basically takes out any major electrical issues as a result of a faulty wiring harness.

I'm just wondering if anyone on this forum with an FD is running a Microtech ECU? I tried searching, but there really isn't too much information on the Microtech system on this entire board. It seems almost every single RX-7 owner I've come across on the forums or in person is running a Power FC. Is there any particular reason for this choice, and I'm asking particularly from a tuning/power standpoint? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

We have a Microtech forum. You can also research the Microtech website.

The bottom line is that if you are comfortable with A-spec, and they will be tuning your car, it would be best to follow their recommendation. The big drawback to the Microtech is that it doesn't have a Commander. I do not know about it's resolution capabilities vs the PFC.

Moving to ECU forum.....

You basically answered your own question! Go w/ the ECU that can best be tuned by local support. I purchased the Power FC some time ago. I switched to microtech for the local support in my area. I absolutely love it. The dash unit feature is also a nice heads up display. The original wiring harness on these cars are usually beat up. It is a wise choice to use a new when achieving the goals you have planned. Hope this helps. Iam running an LT8S by the way.. Garret

Thanks man. That's actually what I was thinking as well. Since I plan on tuning with A-spec I figured it would be a good idea to go with what they suggest. It was only that I've never really heard too much about this particular ECU and wanted to hear some direct customer feedback.

You need to know the pro's and con's of both EMS before making any decisions.

Here're the pro's of each unit

microtech

1.) easy to tune in regular mode (basically 16 data points plus fine tuning in WOT map). You can easily do this within a hr top.
2.) new wiring harness to replace stock harness
3.) comes with a 3bar map sensor in the kit.

Power FC

1.) good basemap
2.) higher resolution than the microtech
3.) allow to reuse all stock factory sensor
4.) both A/C and idle control works with Power FC
5.) OMP works with Power FC
6.) saves you 10hrs of labor on install time compared to microtech
7.) easy to change injectors w/o going into the fuel map

Con's

microtech

1.) no idle control
2.) No A/C control
3.) No O2 feedback
4.) No OMP control
5.) additional labor for wiring
6.) not easy to change injector size (require remapping)

Power FC

1.) idle map can be tricky (adjusting a/f ratio)
2.) doesn't come with a 3 bar map sensor
3.) relies on the factory harness and sensors

I'm sure you can draw your own conclusion based on the list I provided to you.
