Discussion; Are aftermarket ECU's that work with an O2 Sensor superior?
Each ECU system has strong points, no doubt about that, some are easy to tune, others have features that allow you to control additional aspects of the car.
I have an Autronic SM4 and it has a lot of great features, ease of tune, and auto calibration with use of the Autronic gas analyzer, a lot of additional controls but I almost feel like it lacks some important controls.
After buying it I was told it couldn’t be connected to an O2 sensor for additional on the fly tuning adjustments like you find on every car 80's and newer. It may not be necessary but I imagine that engines are always changing, be it greater compression from carbon build up on the rotor surface, air humidity, loss of compression from minute scrapes on rotor housings...... etc.... An ECU would be superior in my mind if it could make small adjustments to the amount of fuel it injects based on the current A/F ratios at your down pipe. Right?
It’s kind of obvious how an oxygen sensor or three makes a big difference on how newer cars perform, when a car has 150,000 miles and the 02 sensor is completely covered in carbon and cant take accurate readings its apparent that the car is running bad. Once replaced it performs a lot better but maybe this is just because of the ECU’s dependence on the 02 sensor. To my knowledge it only makes small temporary modifications to the fuel maps with a general map that never changes.
How many aftermarket ECU’s put into the FD use the O2 sensor? I imagine the Apexi ECU is at least hooked up to it but does it use the sensor?
I may be naive and just not know how to hook up my ECU to a 02 sensor so don't beat me down too bad if I just missed something stupid! Just let me know!

Opening the Autronic computer software I notice PC Software Version 5v26

I'm going to get a LM-1 by plugging it into the computer does it automaticly start close-loop calibration or is there a setting i must turn on?

I take it the closed-loop calibration compares numbers with my Target A/F map, I'll talk to my tuner and ask him if this map is accurate and ready to go.

1.03 is an older ROM, you probably need to upgrade to 1.06 in order to do closed loop. Instead of the LM-1, I'd recommend you get an LC-1 instead, and leave it in your car all of the time. You'll need to wire one of the WBO2 controller's analog outs into the SM4, and make sure that the SM4 is configured to read an O2 sensor on that input.

You woudn't happen to know if this is the file to update the SM4? I'm going to talk to my dealer and see if he can get that update for me.
