Buying HALTECH

I found this dude selling an imcomplete HALTECH for 1K. THe only missing is the MAP SENSOR. Its my first time actually seeing a HALTECH and it looks pretty simple. BUT my question is what do i watch for before handing him my hard earned cash. Its still in his R100 with a 87/88 13B. The wiring and connections are all hooked up together because he said when he bought the HALTECH all the connectors weren't hooked up to the wires. I dont think he has a laptop but how do i know the UNIT works???..The haltech is not hooked up to the motor because he is in the process of pulling it out and selling it. He guarantees that the HALTECH works but im not sure if i should take his words.

How much for a new MAP SNESOR?..what is the difference between 1 2 3 bar map..somebody please enlighten me.

those are the problems associated with buying used parts. the only thing you could do would be to have him send it to Haltech and have them check it to see if it is working. the map sensor is $40 or so and the 1 bar would be for a non turbo motor, 2 bar for a stock turbo II up to 14.7 psi of boost, 3 bar for a high boost big turbo up to 28 psi of boost. this is the range of operation. if you are using the stock turbo II use a 2 bar, and if you buy the system and need a 2 bar map sensor give me a call I have one for the Haltech.

IS there a place here in Cali where i can send the HALTECH and have them check if the unit works?...A distributer of some sort that are certified to service this unique computers.

How is the race car doing?!..is it set for the next race?..I still want to see how you hookep up your HALTECH. Maybe SAT night?

both cars are totally dissassembled. I just got the new car back from the welder/fabricator, but I am scrambling to get the yellow car done for the NASA race. I need to finish the intake manifold and exhaust and start the motor up and drop it off at the dyno to get some baseline settings done.

As for the Haltech the only place to send it to is in Dallas, TX. call them and ask them how long it will take. they are usually swamped, but they are the only ones that can check it with out installing it on some one elses car.

the wiring harness is out of the car at the moment, and I am not sure if I will be home on saturday nite. give me a call in the evening(after 6pm) and see if I am there.
