Best way to face radiator fans

Are there any benefits to the way you place your radiator fans? I just now got to thinking about this. I've always thought that with the top of your radiator tilted forward and fans placed on the bottom front side would be the best way to do it, you can also have a pretty effective heat vent out the hood too. I've never thought of any other way to set it up. What are the benefits of different setups?

Placing the fans between the radiator and the air flow would be a terrible idea.

I would think the best way would be to expose the most surface area of the radiator core you can to the front of the car. I could be wrong but I worked at a radiator shop for about a year. Good luck!
