Advantages/disadvantages of Power FC over AVC-R and S-AFC combo

Question Advantages/disadvantages of Power FC over AVC-R and S-AFC combo

I'm getting a lot of conflicting reports as to the APexi piggy back units being able to tune to the 400HP mark without making the engine go tick, tick, tick, boom.

I figure that the only way to find out for sure it to find out the difference in using the two piggyback units to the stand alone unit. What are the advantages or disadvantages of each? Ease of use? Ease of install? Features? Capabilities?

FYI - I am planning a single turbo conversion on my FD so my info has been coming mostly from the single turbo forum, but I figure that there must be some guys in here that can give me some educated answers and reasons for those answers.

With the S-AFC, you can only make relatively crude fuel additions. The AVC-R is just a boost controller. With the PFC, you have everything:

*fairly high resolution fuel AND timing adjustments
*monitoring of sensors (with commander)
*full adjustments of operating parameters (temps that fans come on, etc)
*boost control
*datalogging with the datalogger ($300 option)
*you can properly control larger injectors (which you will need to go single)
*other stuff I'm forgetting


Add the price of the AVC-R and the S-AFC together and the PFC doesn't look so expensive. I think the timing adjustments will be very important to go single turbo. You cannot make those adjustments with the S-AFC.

Thanks Rynberg! That's useful info.

Anyone else have anything to add or not agree with Rynberg? I understand that there are not as many people in the ECU Forum as some of the others, but there must be an electonics guru in here somewhere. Please help! I don't know very much about this stuff and want to do things right the first time. TIA

i am not to familiar w/ the pfc, but there should be corection maps/tables or whaever pfc guys call them for when the weather/conditions change. by using ONLY the S-afc for fuel, your car may be tunned perfect one day, the next it be to rich, or to lean. hell, this could change in a matter of a few hours. (hot durring the day, cool at night). it is only adding or removing a specified amount of fuel with nothing as a factor other than a percent entered. as rynberg stated it is working in conjunction with all the sensors. when the air temp is hotter, it will know to take out fuel, or add it when colder.
basicly the money you think you are saving by NOT just geting the whole PFC/haltech or whever...could cost you a motor.

I had the avcr/afc combo and it was not good...i would still hit fuel cut above 10 psi until I got an upgraded ecu.
