2014 Logging, Tuning onboard options help sought

for many years my laptop has been perched on the passenger seat of my FD as i have logged runs on the road. Power FC/Datalogit/Laptop. it worked.

recently i ran the Texas Mile. needing to be tech'd for over 200 everything had to be bolted down, including my HP Pavillion. since the pass seat was out of the cabin for the event i ended up bolting the laptop to the pass side floor.

i really, really wanted the logs from the runs.

it turned out that the line for the runs positioned my car so the sun was at my back and it blanked out the screen. which had probably (?) reverted to screensaver mode... i didn't know the status as i was belted in and couldn't do much but hit F8 which would have started the logging.

so no logs.

meanwhile the tech train has moved a long way down the tracks since the Pavilion.

i will be back at the Texas Mile in late March and will log my runs.

i am thinking tablet. it would have to be able to load my ViPEC V88 program. it would need to connect w either a USB cord or CAN... (which is better? i can do either) i have around 75 separate items to log and i of course want as much data as possible... certainly 20 Hz or better.

i was in Best Buy a month ago and the guy suggested a Surface Pro 2 but mentioned other options are being shortly available. probably logging speed might be a question... i want as much as possible.

by having a notebook or thereabouts size i could, while belted in hold it and then when time came to make the run i could slide it into an aluminum container/slot and tech would be happy.

i think there is something like a Windows Pro 2 that would work, i believe Dell makes something but i am not anywhere near where i need to be to make the best decision.

i would greatly appreciate help on this matter which is important to me.

TIA,

howard

it turns out that V88 logs internally so i am set w just a few prompts. the subject may still be of interest for Power FC peeps.

howard, i just got a Dell Venue 8 Pro.

it has a full x86 processor and runs full windows 8, so i can run my haltech platinum with it. runs it with ease.

$250.

Hands-on with the Dell Venue 8 Pro - TechRepublic.

if you need a laptop, get an 11" Macbook Air and put windows 7 on it. they are all aluminum, fast processor, very very durable, and very high quality (but expensive):

also, when are you going to stop being weird and just buy a Haltech? the software is the best of all the EMSs i've seen.
