clip from "speed master", a japenese movie. watch at around 1:22. what is with that animated screen telling her about her boost? fast and furious movies have the same thing (the latest one having paul walkers skyline with the screen saying "scramble boost" when he hits nitrous). I have never seen or heard of systems like that in real life in the way they depict them in these films, do they exist or what? I know they are mostly for show but I see these highly unnecessary video screens saying "oh, you just hit the NOS yo, let me do some stupid animation" and am just curious where you can get these things. is it a mad, tight, JDM thing?lol.
also, on a more serious note, anyone know of any systems (or a screen that is compatible with aftermarket EMS's like greddy emanage ultimate/haltech/etc) that can display digital gauges/readouts? things like water temp, oil pressure, etc. I am thinking of basically like a dvd player screen type deal that could be in place of my radio area.

ya, the scramble boost thing I understand, but when you got a 30 second anime clip going on just because you hit the nitrous then it is getting ridiculous. I was just curious if they actually had systems like that in the real world. I'm thinking that it's some kind of parody on the import tuning culture, as you can see how overdone and stereotypical the cars in that clip are.lol

ya, I was reading too far into it. Nobody who cares about performance would pay for something like that, they would just run a regular ems and gauges. Must be in all the civics though for when they hit their nos to get up to highway speed.lol. It's too bad the ricers have ruined the civics reputation, some of them can be okay if taken seriously. but it's still fwd so ...wait, why am I talking about civics?

There are also digital dashes which are meant to replace the entire OEM gauge cluster, such as Sard Stack or AiM MXL units. The cheapest of these is probably one of the AiM units, the entry level one, which is the Strada (it's like $1100). Unfortunately these do not feature animated kittys.
The way to have exactly what you want is going to be with a carputer combined with some other combination of hardware and or software IMO.
By the way, I think this idea you're tracking on is pure genius, it's actually kind of ahead of it's time as far as actual utilization in the real world. What with the prevalence of kawaii in Japan (adorableness), I have no idea how this has not become popular (for all I know it has).

^lol, I think you were taking this seriously? that's all right though. I just had never seen that sort of thing on a real world car.
I'm all for digital gauges in my center console though. I would prefer to keep my actual cluster regular (albeit aftermarket) gauges as having the needle and seeing the whole spans of the speedo/tach is easier for me. I drove a car with a digital dash with just numbers and a bunch of blocks that went up as you went faster and it was just uncomfortable for me. eventually I'm going t2 swap with a standalone (haltech most likely but megasquirt, greddy e-manage ultimate are still in the running) so I was thinking that with a standalone I could get some digital gauges going on some type of screen in the center console. I have no idea about how that stuff works...yet. I'm a do-it-yourself-er so I will probably start trying to understand that stuff.

I like functionality, and normally I would prefer things that do something to increase power, grip, rigidity, reduce weight etc. But this sounds hilarious and great, although purely in an ironic sense.
