U haul trailor experiences?

anyone here ever use a Uhaul car trailor on a long trip before? not the dolly one but the full size one. I'll be towing it from central texas to vegas so I can make more drift events in cali. is there any tips or anything i should watch out for? or do you guys have any other suggestions on other trailor companies i can rent from? I know its just a damn trailor but ive always used and actual sports car trailor and I was wondering if the uhaul ones will be able to accomidate my vehicle since its its made for stock vehicles.
man law: here is the vehicle that will be towed...

I used the dolly. As long as you can get it on the trailer without rubbing I don't see the problem.

If they insist on hooking it up because its "Uhaul procedure" definitely look it over. My first experience was my last, the uhaul guy forgot to put the cotter pin in the bar that stops the hitch from falling out of the receiver. 45 minutes later going down the PA turnpike the trailer fell off my truck with only the safety chains holding it. Luckily the trailer was empty..

once you get the car on it, dont open your door quickly. I had a friend guide me onto the trailer. then I asked if I was clear to open the door. he said yes. I smashed the door into the wheel cover of the trailer. that "wheel cover" can unlatch to allow your door to swing open.

+1

I couldn't open my doors when I was towing my car, because of how low it was at the time and had to climb in and out through the hatch

blehhh... U-haul trailers are ridiculous with gas... they require you to fill it up to the spot it was at when you got it... but the tank is huge and you'll never put it to the perfect spot so you'll always be filling it at least 3-6 gallons more than you got it with. we filled up the tank twice (pretty sure it was over $125 each time) and the second time we filled it up it was to return it.. so we just gave them over $125 of gas...

all in all.. it was around $850 to drive something 350 miles and do all the work ourselves.. I'm still paying my parents back for that ****

I hauled my FD from northern VT to southern NJ... the main issue is that the front bumper needs to be at least 6 inches (I think, maybe higher) off the ground to clear the lip on the front of the trailer. I used 2" boards to lift my front wheels, but that made the car unstable. I would have to pull over every few rest stops to reset the straps; it was a pain in the *** but it worked.

Ah, as long as you use a personal truck and not the U-Haul truck to haul, that works. They're rediculous about gas, and their tank is insanely huge, with poor gas mileage.

+1 on checking everything over. When I got to pick my FC up, I noticed the elctrical connections weren't plugged in. So the connector drag on the highway the entire trip there.

And also +1 on door opening. I had to go Dukes of Hazard style getting in and out of my FC while it was on the trailer. Overall though, the trailer worked just fine aside from that.

Just make sure the car is put on it properly and secured properly.

And for the love of god, don't push the car uphill onto a trailer that inclines more, with sticking brakes. You'll want to shoot yourself.

(Yes, I realize you won't have that problem. But maybe it'll make you feel better next time you run into trouble, to realize how hard that feat was.)

Overall...

If I had a truck of my own, I'd use their trailer again to haul it. Just not their trucks.

I used the trailer to pick up my FC. It worked fine. was only $60. no time limit.
I belieive the only downside really is that the trailer its self if Fackin heavy..so your gonna need something big to pass there little requirememnts. I think i used a 05 dodge ram 1500.

but as for the car being on the trailer, just dont open your doors once its on the trailer...theres noooo space to get out unless you go out the window, but you'll be stuck with a window open after that. or just crawl out the hatch. thats what i did.

just because you make a reservation, doesn't always mean they will honor it.
