Shimmed diff vs 2 way
Soooo my s4 t2 diff went out on me and now its rarely locks up. Has 220k on it. Was thinking of rebuilding the diff with thiker plates or just buy a 2 way. Price difference is about 700. Just wondering about your guys opinions. I could uae that 700 to get a better clutch and a new seat. Is the 2 way worth it?

its supposed to do that
A soda can shim on the outside of the end cone washers works wonders on the stock clutch LSDs. I just shimmed one last weekend like this. 1st shim brought it from zero breakaway torque to ~70 ft/lb, second shim brought it to ~150 ft/lb. Red bull cans are marginally thinner if you want less.

I just bought the +.17 mm thicker thrust washer from mazda or mazdatrix. Super super easy to take it apart and build it back up. Mine went from 35 breakaway to 60.

Pineapple shimmed a S4 T2 diff for a friend of mine and it worked well for awhile but within a year it was back to crappy. So my recomandation is to pony up the money for a real diff like MazdaSpeed or OS Giken or go welded, always a popular option on the budget drift car
