SCCA running a drifting class this year?

Has anyone heard about this yet?
Any details on how SCCA will class the cars?
Event info or schedules?
Discuss...

I know NWR has been running some drift events for a few years. Never heard anything about classing cars. The NWR site hasn't updated the drift section so no clue whats going on this year

SCCA and drifting sound as about as fun as sticking my hand in a blender. I'm sure they would make 100s of rules to make it as unpleasant as possible.

i've participated in the scca-nwr drift events at bremerton. it's great for beginners because its an open field, but we usually get harrassed by the old guys with "mx-5's" (do NOT call them miatas!) porches and other really expensive cars. and yes, the safety steward is a **** with the rules. but again, it's a GREAT place for beginners.

as far as running this year, im not sure. the guy who runs all of the evergreen drift events also ran the scca ones, BUT, he is stepping down this year because it has consumed his life. so i dont know if anyone else is picking up the scca program or not, since it was never too popular with only 3-4 events per year, and no tandeming AT ALL (even with cage)

I checked my local SCCA regions and so far they have not been able to find venues for drifting.

As far as SCCA as the whole endorsing drifting this is first time I hear of anything like that.

Maybe they should compare how many people have died/ been seriously injured in drifting vs practically every other type of auto rAcing... Seriously sick of insurance companies and scca type people considering the sport to be some outrageously dangerous sport...

completely agree with you, one of the problem that my region ran into is insurance does not want to cover drifting event? I seen more dangerous times during autocross and circuit racing than I have ever seen during drifting. During drifting events worse thing that could happen is to cars smash into each other. During circuit racing you can have pile up at 100+ mph where some people are not going to walk away from.

we did a few practice days and demos a couple years ago with the local SCCA, at first they were alitte iffy on our whole way of doing things but we pretty much just told them this is how we do it in a respectful manner. Now they hit us up all the time most of us are usually sliding somewhere else. But the guys seemed to really enjoy having us.
