RotaSpinna: One week til missile launch :)

Bought this 1986 RX7 a month or so ago to fix up cheap and daily. THEN, bought another 1987 RX7 shell a couple weeks ago to build. Well I'm tired of building and never making an event SO...

One week til MISSILE LAUNCH!

Going to try and throw this thing together for the Round 1 of The Texas Drift Series, put on by Fabricated Motorsports and Non Stop Tuning. Which happens to be this next Sunday :)

if it's a manual rack you'll be fine! de-powered power racks suck at first, but still you get used to it.
have fun

Yep, manual rack.

Daviticus 02-28-11 01:33 PM

The best kind, as far as I'm concerned.

RotaSpinna69 03-01-11 07:12 AM

slowgxl 03-05-11 09:43 PM

wow thats clean...please don't ruin it by turning it in to a MISSILE! just drift the crap out of it and keep it classy.

Daviticus 03-06-11 12:01 PM

I'm going to have to agree with slowgxl, that thing looks pretty damned straight.

Reminds me way too much of my first base FC, on 280ZX wheels and a 'vert hood.

leftcoastdrifter 03-06-11 02:47 PM

that is way too nice to be a missle.... yet :)

Thanks for all the nice comments!!! I had a great time today just practicing, meeting new people and having fun! SO much fun in fact, that I'm now running on one rotor :/ But what do you expect for an original 143k engine revved up like a top :)

The car performed ALOT better than I expected for an old engine and a questionable clutch haha. May end up starting a NA build thread...

Thanks again,

Andrew

leftcoastdrifter 03-06-11 07:52 PM

I felt the same way about my NA for a long time until I drove/drifted my buddies TII at a event. My NA dreams died around the first cone. Power everywhere!!!!!! (compared to the NA that is) Don't let the NA fool you, go turbo and don't look back, well, unless it's strictly a missle that is, then just let it rip with whatever you got. :)

driftfcbuckey 03-06-11 08:31 PM

keep it NA for missile status! they run forever!
TII the race car though for sure! power = fun.

RotaSpinna69 03-07-11 09:16 AM

I'm going to rebuild it and finish out the rest of the year NA. Then possibly turbo or 20B next year :)

I will keep updating. I will also put my Haltech PS2000 and Racepak to good use. Any recommendations for rebuild/seal kits?

Thanks,

Andrew

stevensimon 03-07-11 09:37 AM

rotary aviation and rotary aviation only for seals.

also.. i would not waste time and money on 20b.. i went that route. its a pain in the ass and a huge and constant drain on the wallet. coupled with it not even being done yet, i would kill for a 13b na atm.

RotaSpinna69 03-07-11 09:52 AM

I will keep that in mind...

slowgxl 03-08-11 10:38 AM

You got any pictures of your car drifting?

Going LS1 :) Who wants to buy my Haltech Platinum Sport 2000?!!!

Daviticus 03-08-11 04:18 PM

Why am I not surprised.

RotaSpinna69 03-08-11 04:20 PM

Because everyone likes a bandwagon?! haha

Daviticus 03-08-11 05:23 PM

If I were to go with a piston engine, I'd at least go with a Ford 5.0 or Modular V8. The T-5/T-45/TKO(3550) that's behind Ford's engines is a bunch cheaper than a GM T-56 equivalent, and G-Force's gearsets are dirt cheap compared to the GM T-56.

I just can't justify an $800 engine being bolted to a $2k transmission, I'd rather spend more on 5.0 or modular longblocks and run with a near-bulletproof $500 trans.

stevensimon 03-08-11 05:32 PM

5.0=hole cut in hood

revox7 03-08-11 05:33 PM

im actually thinking of going v8 after i blow the engine in my vert and the spare

I've yet to see a fuel-injected 5.0 mounted PROPERLY that has required cutting the hood.

Hmmm...I will DEFINITELY look into it.

How much for the ps2k?

Do also keep in mind you can find full Mustang swaps for a good bit cheaper ... I just sold the 5.0 and T-5 out of my '94 Cobra parts car, with wiring and driveshaft, for $900.

+2 on the foil. Nice.

RotaSpinna69 05-04-11 06:57 PM

I bought the reflective foil through Pegasus for $29 for a 1X2', but now DEI has it for about $18 I think. Great stuff!

More to come!

Thanks,

Andrew
