TX Opinions on front wheel/tire width with no PS

On my '86 NA, I was running Celica/Supra 14x7 wheels all around WITHOUT powersteering. Great looking wheels and performed very well, but I've decided to go LS1 after the motor grenaded. Now I have some research to do. Obviously I will need more rubber out back ...

... but what are everyones opinions on TOO wide of a wheel in the front with no PS. This car will not be a daily driver, but may see some weekend street use now that '86s are only safety inspections. Will still be a dedicated drift car.

I'd like to go with 17x9s all around. Anyone have any experience running certain wheels without PS or maybe a depowered set-up? Any opinions or info will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Andrew

i had 18x9s on my carbd fc , converted to manual rack parking sucked but anything above 1 mph took no effort to steer, and that car was my daily driver to and from school and then to and from work for almost 2 years even my GF didnt have a problem with it <waiting for 120 pound twig boys to start complaining>

I run a depowered S5 rack in my FC. Currently I have 215/40R17's up front and it's pretty easy. I had 235/50R17 up front at one drift event and it sucked *****! The bumps in the track would literally rip the steering wheel out of my hand. I have no idea why it was so bad but it just was. I pitted and put the 215's up front and the problem was solved. No more issues.

Great info! I was hoping to run 215f/235r, so it all might work to my advantage.

Thanks,

Andrew

I run 234/45/17 up front on a 17x8 rim.

It feels fine for me but it can get away from me if I do something wrong. Bumpy tracks can sometimes mess with me if I'm transitioning.

I wanted to finish off some 15's I had laying around so I put my rears (235s) up front and the 15's in the back. No bueno.

I have 235-40-17s on 17x9 -8 with manual rack and modified knuckles. I'm skinny and don't have any problems with it.

Also, this isn't true.

^That will be my next "upgrade" for next season, if I don't end up feeling comfortable with the manual rack.

Thanks again for all the great info!
