God damn drifters and their stretched tires!
Don't knock something if you don't understand the complete setup of the car fully. Its obvious the functionality of it. Well... at least to people who have actually driven. If you can slightly stretch a tire to make its sidewall a bit stiffer, you get better response out of the tire. Its a bit more dramatic loss of grip at the limit if you are used to over-driving your car, but it definitely has a positive benefit for SOME PEOPLE. Oh wow, imagine that.
Get fucked.

F**K THE SYSTEM!!
If you cant use the wide tires. You shouldnt have the wide/bigger rims? right? Your are basicly adding weight to you rotating mass for the looks? Sounds good.(sarcasm)
I have never seen a tire come off with an extreme stretch. Dont know if it can. But I always figured If you were sideways and happened to hit a lip on the road at a almost 90deg. angle that it would hit the tire wall hard enough to push it inwards?
Does that sound so impossible? More likely to happen when drifting on public street roads with many imperfections. I drift public roads often. And im pretty sure that a stretched tire is the last thing you want on public roads.

wider rims and spacers are for a wider stance, increasing stability.
welcome to racing 101, idiot.
SO, by stretching tires on wide rims you get best of both worlds. wider stance without all of the added grip of say a 255 tire. drifting needs some grip yes, but running stock power levels you want as little as possible.
also stretched tires are only close to popping off in the case of EXTREME stretching. normal stretching that most people run are just fine

ok now i have experience with stretch
there was an old pirelli hand book that used a rule of thumb, if u get 2 tyres of the same size i.e 205/65/15 put one on a 6in rim and one on a 7in rim, the tyre on the 7in actually becomes wider and effectively becomes 215/60/15 tyre
now i have worked with tyres for almost 15 yrs and used to fit and supply some of the best drifters in australia with secondhand tyres , and also race/drift wheel alignment/suspension modification etc
STRECTED tyres are absolutely necessary and anyone saying otherwise is wrong
i have fitted 225/35/19 tyres on 19x11.5 rims.......if youre good enough to get em to blow up and smart enough to put 55-60 psi in em they wont pull off the bead,
however when they deflate they will pop straight off the beads so caution must be used with extreme.....and this is the most extreme case!!!!!!
common stretched fitments
205s or 215s on 8in fronts......(standard fitment on 6in rims)
225s or 235s on 9in fronts and rears....(standard fitment on 8in rims)
265s on 10 or 11in+rears.....(standard fitment on 9 in rims)
if u dont believe me still go to ya mums car and push the rear bumper sideways, in a back and forth motion, cars with standard fitment tyres will dance/wobble back and forth.......really nice for comfort but we own Rx7s here.........
im running 215/40/17 on 8in F and 235/40/17 on 9in rears
not excessive, no play/wobble just razor sharp feel especially on change of direction.......PHEW

i gotta say i see this guy on myspace all the time lol
but here is some of mine
btw guys, i feel great looking through this thread, i was always...dissapointed that my car used to always look like ****, now i am happy to see that everyone who is even close to being a "drifter' car looks like complete **** too
yea, that was my old car though, and funny enough, that was just a NA car with a gxl diff, and racingbeat rear steer eliminators. No coilovers, no angle kits, or anything special, just *****
but I finally got my hands on a TII now and have lots of good stuff for it, just needs to get it running right

those were from the last event and i threw some of the homies in... who dosent like to see a R32 with a stroked, ported, fully built RB24 tear it up in the valley of the sun. Just representing all the sick cats from AZ who continue to run badass events.
