need help: opening up my differential

Hey i probably sound like an idiot asking this but i have just about gone crazy trying to figure this out, but here is the situation i have removed my differential from my s4 n/a and i removed the bolts around it and i try to pry open the housing/case and i can only open it a little bit and i cannot get it to come off. I have been reading and people say to take the axle stubs off and i believe those are the two things on the side that connect to your rear axles...but they just dont wanna come off .. is there a certain way to remove them so i can open my diff up or is there a different way to go about this? Please help!

The retaining clips on the stub shafts are the worst sometimes.... One of my least favorite things to deal with
