How do factory alarms react if the thief uses a slimjim to open the door?

driftfcbuckey 01-21-11 12:38 AM

the horn just goes off... we've locked the keys out of forrest's truck at every single out of state event to date...

we did it at Adam's... we did it at Irwindale... we did it @ XDC AZ.... i found myself asking if they automatically lock themselves at one point, because i know it does it on its own after some time..

idk about ignition/ecu/fuel being disabled if you get in via slimjim, and start it without the key however... i would assume it wouldnt work??

posted this yesterday on the rx8 club to get the word out with fellow rotorheads

Justin I was doing a little investigating of my own. being as there was no broken glass or any signs of forced entry I was wondering how this was possible. I know a few guys that work at dealers so I called one of them that work in parts dept. I asked him how hard it would be to get a replacement key for a car. Basically it's ridiculous.

All someone has to do is call in with a VIN number and the dealer will program a chipped key for X amount of money. They don't ask questions because its easy money and not many people have access to someone else's VIN.

In short they probably got the vin off the dashboard through the windshield and called it in. With a key to your truck they could unlock the door with the key and it will disable the alarm.

I would call every dealer in the area and ask if any keys for your trucks VIN were ordered. It could be a start.

driftfcbuckey 01-21-11 02:33 AM

very good start!
i got a key made for my FC when i first bought it for $10 no questions with the vin written on a piece of paper...

all they'd have to do is say their registration is locked in the truck, and they cant get to it, but here's the vin. plus like he said; if their's friends working their, it may be easier to get it...

RE TurboII 01-21-11 02:37 AM

JTP is the reason I got an FC. and I know this is the original FC he started with. which amazes me. I wanna see him get this car back. I wish my car was half of what his is.

And right. if they have a friend at a dealer, its even easier than it would be.

Vell 01-21-11 10:02 AM

I hope they'll find the stolen goods ... :/
That sucks, this is why I am like a psycho when the trailer is parked outside ... Can't even sleep.

magus2222 01-21-11 10:48 AM

leftcoastdrifter 01-21-11 06:53 PM

i just copied and posted to the Northwest Section. Good luck Justin and we've got our eyes and ears out up here for you.

i hope these and all other car thieves have a special spot in Hell when they get there.

driftfcbuckey 01-21-11 07:25 PM

dude i have $20k into just my current car... counting like blowing up motors, repairs. etc...
all the little shit adds up... it's very easy to piss off a few thousand in stupid shit like new wheel bearing, hoses, wheelstuds brake pads etc..

anyways, can we get this on the next page already?? that's a horrible picture of Kat Von D at the top... atleast post a better one. everytime this threads opens it frightens me.

me too, but like my friend charlie said, it made me rember;

"we all have those nights when we get back, and are about to pass out and wait to unload the next day"
i have been up for days on end building my car to get ready for an event, THEN drive all day... i'm sure most of you know how tiring it is to just drive! let alone stay up for 2-3days prior.

when you have an encolsed trailer locked up, hooked up to your newer truck it seems very safe. just sucks there are thieves who still go after it...

XDC AZ we drove like 100 miles away from the track when the sandstorm hit, and i just left my car under some bleachers until the next day when we got back.... stupid on my part, but again you feel like everyone is out to keep an eye out for eachother.

I just copied this thread to the 2nd Gen section and stickied it.....

Best I can do. Only the Admin can post anything as a forum wide announcement.

Hope it helps, best of luck Justin!

thank you so much for all the support guys. it really means alot that this community has my back in this shitty time.. i pray that i get my car back in one piece, there's been so much blood, sweat and tears poured into that car..

i'll mention to the detectives to look into the dealerships and locksmiths, that's a great idea to start... again thanks so much guys, i'm really hoping something turns up soon.

you've always been there for us with advice, and helping us follow in your footsteps man, so it's the least we could do.
i have been checking every few hours scrolling through forums. nothing yet, but they'll get caught.

J.T.P. 01-22-11 12:12 PM

thanks buckey, i know you've been doing some serious searching, along with others... i've been doing the same. lets not give up until it's found. this car needs to be back on the track with me behind the wheel. i just don't feel like it's had it's last day yet.. we gotta find it.

Turbo II Rotor 01-22-11 12:19 PM

My condolences man, thieves are the lowest form of scumbags.

barnett87rx7 01-22-11 02:01 PM

someone should check the japan/east asian forums I have heard of just normal cars getting stolen and sent over there and something as iconic as the fc would sell well in japan

RXILVER7 01-22-11 11:43 PM

Pretty unrelated because I live in NY but there were just two guys in an Xterra scoping out my FC in my driveway.

Got my rifle loaded and waiting.
