Extending balljoints

Messed around with an extra balljoint I had today. Extended 2.5", I think it's about -8*.

Of course, the wheel is toed way in now. Rack spacers should work pretty good, but what about tie rods? I don't think spacers will be enough.

What do you experienced guys think about these balljoints? I welded a 2.5" piece of quarter inch steel in between them, welding top and bottom each side, and then ground the welds on the bottom down, and welded another piece of quarter inch on the bottom. Excuse the slag, I had to use flux core since I'm out of gas.

This is how I dealt with my extended control arms.

There is a bolt threaded into the outer tie rod, so it's completely reversable. Then a sleeve welded to the bolt and a nut welded to the sleeve. It added a minimum of ~2" , since I can only thread the inner tie rod into it about 1" before it hits the bolt head.

Hm if push comes to shove I guess I could do that. I was hoping to find some tie rod ends with heim joints. I just hit up Abercrombie to see if his tie rod ends would compensate for the balljoints. I'm sure rack spacers will help as well.

Rack spacers will help with the alignment but increase bumpsteer, since you've changed the length of the control arm, but not the tie rod.

You're still not considering using a skinnier front wheel for clearance?

I think Mazdatrix has some parts to make a heim outer tie rod longer than stock, but I don't know about 2.5". That's pretty intense.

Edit: Did you forget about this thread? https://www.rx7club.com/drifting-226...thread-996736/

Edit again: Post #17 in that thread.

I've read that thread before multiple times haha. I was just wondering if there were any other options for the situation.

As far as the wheel, I may step down to an 8 and space it out. I was originally planning on running a 17x8 -5. All I have now though are my 9's.

I like your extended tie rod solution though. I have a buddy who's a good tig welder, I'll have him do it. I'm also considering shortening my balljoints to 2", I measured and it came out to -10 camber, I think that's a little drastic haha.

I've never noticed it either.

I think I'm just going to run 1.5" extended balljoints and run rack spacers and Abercrombie tie rod ends. Where the hell do you guys get your rack spacers?

On Mazdatrix's site I could only find the spacers with the tie rod ends, and not just the spacers
