I yanked the 13b Turbo and Trans out the day before yesterday. It kinda looks like a steam punk rocket when it's vertical on the engine stand.
http://evanfitch.com/images/motortran.jpg I'm going to buy a rebuild kit and rebuild it for future use in another chassis I think. I did a hack job painting the engine bay white. I t would be better, but it started raining and I didn't have time to make it good. http://evanfitch.com/images/whitebay.jpg I wrapped the headers and they are ready to rumble. http://evanfitch.com/images/wrappedheaders.jpg Andrew is dropping the LS out of the firebird. I'll bring the FC over to D-UP when it's out. |
Holy shit dude... You weren't kidding when we talked at ecb.. You've Made Wayy more progress than I have on my car... The rad hose is fixed.. Drove the car maybe 2 times since then. Mainly cuz I have a bitter taste I my mouth with the car. Haha... Hell, I'm still waiting for my roll cage that I paid for 6 months ago... Still waiting...
^^ Nice dude. You really need to relocate that lower radiator hose. It hangs dangerously low ( as you know). Where did you buy a cage from? Custom? Bolt in?
That is absolutely sick looking, was always thinking about how fast an RX-7 is with a V-8 motor.

A local shop... Dont wanna name names in an open forum. It's supposed to be A custom cage. Pretty much gave away $1000 at this point since I have absolutely nothing to show for it. Expensive lesson learned I suppose. Maybe with my tax return next year I'll get someone to bend me one up.... Or buy a bender and a notcher and do it myself. |
congrats on all the progress your making , very nice build
not trying to knock you, or your work, but why even paint the engine bay when it looks not as good as it would have if you just pressure washed/cleaned it all.
just saying that money/effort could have been put into other things. that vin plate comes off with 2 screws..... i just don't see the logic getting put in here. |
The paint job is garbage, I'm completely aware of that. I could have done a better job except for the a fore mentioned weather problems. Really the engine bay paint isn't meant for looks at all it's pure function. My engine bay was black previously. The reason for the white is to quickly expose and hopefully cure any fluid leaks that may arise. With the black engine bay you can have oil misting out of lines and not see it for a while. White solves that.
Oh and randomly My vin plate isn't screwed in. It has two rivets. Is that unusual???
nice progress man. mine is comming along at somewhat the same pace.
i hope we both can make it to atleast one more event |
Its been goin kinda slow, but i'm pretty busy with other things too. Its ok if i can't make any more events this year, but I'm hoping I can.
^^^So I guess the rivets are unusual then.

@OP dude if it's riveted then that thing is stolen or something.... all FC's came with small screws holding the vin plate on. its screwed for this situation exactly. the stamped vin on the firewall should match it. it's not raining everyday homie! finish that shit!!!! no quitting! |

Ooh.. mine has rivets too :( ill need to check the stamped vin

both my fc's vins were rivited but they also came from two sketchy mexicans  (not being racist just stating facts)

I Like white wheels. Kinda depends on the color combo like everything else. This car won't be red when it's all said and done anyway. Not sure what color I'm going with yet.
hot pink wheelssssss <33 no homo
Well hopefully I can pull it off ! Lol ... Bck to topic Evan I can't wait to see you drift got any more updates?
Some random iPhone pics from whats happenin
http://evanfitch.com/images/motorandcar.jpg http://evanfitch.com/images/fitting.jpg http://evanfitch.com/images/cuttingtransmount.jpg http://evanfitch.com/images/insulationgon.jpg http://evanfitch.com/images/ls6in.jpg There have been a lot of fitment issues. I'm using the Pez mounts and 1 7/8" JTR headers that are wrapped in heat shielding. With all the firewall and trans tunnel mods we're actually hitting the throttle pedal. Any suggestions on that would be more than welcomed. |
WOW really? Hitting the firewall? I'm using Hinson engine mounts and a custom trans mount. Is it just the headers your having clearance issues with?
Our cars look alot alike :) http://i55.tinypic.com/2s83eh1.jpg |
Well the Pez mounts put the motor super far back (notice the firewall destruction right in the middle. Plus I noticed people usualy use 1 3/4 headers, so the 1 7/8 is larger and I wrapped them, so even larger still
need som color opinions. I'm not sure what color and finish I want this car when it's all finished. I saw this pic
http://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_i...0001_large.jpg and the flat blue really caught my eye. What do people think of this color on an FC? |
that picture is super old, remember that car from like super street mag or one of those publications.
but how do feel about the color???
Flat anything, besides chests, is definitely IN right now!
U better giv me a ride wen this mofo is done! Ill return tge favor ;)
Sorry for the lack of updates guys. It's been slow goin as my available time seems to be disappearing more and more every day. Anyway one of my frame rails was almost rotted through right behind the drivers side headlight to I decided to cut the whole front off
http://evanfitch.com/images/cutting.jpg Then I made base plates and threaded them. Then welded them on. http://evanfitch.com/images/plates.jpg Then bent up some DOM tube and have it tacked together right now. Hopefully by the end of the week I'll get a chance to weld it. http://evanfitch.com/images/tubefront.JPG After thats welded, we'll throw the motor back in and I'll fab up a trans mount. More updates soon. |
shit just got real.
this is 100% cooler than the unpainted front end! keep it up!!! |
Thanks dude. I'm hoping it will be seriously functional as well. It wasn't as tough as I thought it would be. Even using a manual bender and the drill for the notcher not working so I had to go out and get another drill it only took like 3 hours. I think for my first rodeo that isn't bad.
It's ok If I crash. I'll Just bolt another one on.

no seriously! don't crash. i like my internal organs functioning and not smushed. full on tube fronts scare the shit out of me. |
crumple zones ftw. Evan, Car's looking good. keep the old paint scheme. fuck bodywork.
Well I guess after I'm LS swapped the patriot missile paint scheme would make more sense than ever.
http://evanfitch.com/images/merica.jpg |
I've been screwing around and painting the headlight covers to find a color that I like. I think I've finally settled on this blue. I like it, I think it's cool, but still modest.
http://evanfitch.com/images/blueheadlight.jpg |
great project cant wait to c more updates
Doin a little more work on the front end. I built mounting brackets for the bodywork yesterday. In case anyone is wondering all the body panels I bought are super cheap. Probably worst molds ever. I wanted cheap so when I beat it up it's not a big investment lost. The problem With that of course is nothing fits right haha.

Dual oil cooler setup?
Factory oil cooler and power steering cooler.
Mm BN.
Modded up a set of knuckles. Pretty easy I thought actually. Basically copied the Rotary Works design. Cut 3/4 of an inch out and tried to get the tierod pickup close to the brake rotor. I also drilled out the pickups to accommodate 14mm hardened bolts. Car also has rack spacers and secret element inner tie rods. The angle is about 50* and after an alignment the ackerman will be pretty close to zero. I have two more sets of factory knuckles waiting around for making improvements on these. For anyone wondering, I screwed them up 3 times before getting to here.

how much for you to make me a front end like that?

get this thing done.... first event comes quick.
My comfortable lack of motivation was upset somehow and my car is caged..it came out retardedly awesome plenty of head room and the cage is super tight to the chassis, and that lower rad outlet now comes out the side of my setup...no more scraping on pavement transitions.. Totally ready for offtrack goodness. Hurry up and finish.... I wanna rub my green paint on your driver door :-))))) |
