Why did you rattle can it?
|
im not happy with any of the shops in El Paso as far as paint and body, plus i have a little bit of an issue with the way these body shops do buisness here.
That and i wasnt gonna spend uber money on a paint job for something that has a chance of hittin a wall. |
Ah I see; I wouldn't give my 7 to any shady shop either. What about vinyl wrap though?
|
I looked into vinyl wrap in the future. Im still playing around with design ideas and the most rediculous color scheme i can think of. so its on the back burner.
|
Vinyl wrapping an fd is a hard mission to accomplish..
looking good though |

Hey how do you like your twin disc, Im thinking about getting one but at the same time thinking it may be over kill for my set up, I just want to know my clutch is bulet proof |
i get weird looks in parking lots, kind of the same looks those of you get with welded diffs. but it takes skill to not have that super jerky motion.
But at the end of the day, clutch slip is the LAST thing on my mind and i love that. |
what was wrong with the red paint?

i dont mind the VR at all. But i had an R1 wing in Brilliant Black, front fenders in original VR, and the rest of the car was a cheap respray with a more orange VR. One solid color is beter than three seperate in my opinion.
plus im just doing something different. ive been doin Red/Black for a minute now, so now im goin with the Flat Black/Lime Green. just having fun with it. |
fd looks clean!!
|
+1.. that red was damn nice looking man.. should've left it for a while.. now it's just.. flat..
|
From good looking to ugly in 10 rattle cans.
|
i dont know man.. i think slightly varying hues of gloss red are way better than dry spotted and streaky circa 2003 flat black rustoleum.
its your car though so good luck. |

what was the reasoning behind this ? |
what shop is it at? are they doing all the work?
|
Its at EPT Motorsports in El Paso, TX. they are helping me with this stuff due to my lack of facilities to be able to break it down. Im doing all the suspension work at the DIY shop on post since that stuff is pretty straight forward. This is my first rotary so i wanted a show with expeirience to help me learn the ins and outs of the motor in this beast.
And the best part about this whole thread is everyone seems to be hating on the paint choice. While paint is a pretty important part of a build, id rather focus on my motor and suspension setups to be dialed in and operating perfectly BEFORE i spend money on a rediculous paint job ihavetwins, im confused as to what your asking. |
oh thats cool. EPT motorsports is a good shop
|
I have a theory that is escalating and I think you further escalated it by flat blacking your beautiful FD. This theory goes and is this : " Most FD owners should not own an FD"
|
^^^^
Cool story bro. Like i said, if people can truly only find the paint as the problem, then visit my thread in about 14 months when i have a paint job that fits your approval. ive got a saying too that you really help me solidify "Some FD owners are too self righteous to understand individualist ideas" You really think the first FD LS was welcomed with open arms. Cmon man, lighten up. |

Here is the beast on the XXR's i picked up off of Zilvia....seem to fit pretty nice but i think im gonna throw the saleen reps out back still to keep it lookin different. http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x...5-01143132.jpg Engine bay shot. Got the rats nest out, still lookin to get the harness worked out but that cant be too hard. Picked up 1000cc primary injectors with the rail to match. Wideband is in the mail, so really all that im missing in the end is some sort of a Datalogit. i think i can hold off for now. Oh yea, finally got my Herro Japan parts, some Super Now tie rod ends and URAS steering rack spacers. Its all in the suspension.... |
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x...-23_160014.jpg
Got the 35R clocked and mounted, as well as doing the ABS Delete with Proportioning Valve courtesy of Alex Rodriguez... I cant believe how much weight that ABS system was and how simple it was to install the kit. Im so glad i was able to pick one up before he stoped making them! Next on the list is to finish the harnesss, get the downpipe modded to accept the Wideband, and then rebuild! hopefully we can get it running before the 4th! |
Did you ever get this thing running?
|
Shes back together, i will get a shot up in the next day or so. The only thing stopping us from starting her is a silicone elbow from the turbo to the IC piping. Fuel system was built and plumbed up last week, and the tuner is comin into town somewhere over the weekend. Work has been draggin this build on, but by next week we should be destroying some tires and streching her legs
|
Very cool bro, can't wait to see the progress.
|
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x...7-28165804.jpg
So i stoped being a Vagin and got our asses into high gear. we throw on the UIM and throttle boddy on mondya, after the last fitting goes on the fuel system. welded on the new adapter for the SSQV and just need to check couplers. after that its an orgy of vaccum lines and who knows what else but its all minimal. Tuner comes on tuesday so it should be sideways by dark that night. Stay tuned! |
good luck to you.
|
every thing is bolted up now, tried starting it last night, found out i reversed the feed/return lines
after that got corrected, i went to start it and we had a leak in the connection at the primary. taking off the UIM and secondary to tighten ALL fittings later today. will have pics, dont know how to imbed video though. |
UPDATE: Used KG parts primary rail, and even after using 4 o-rings PER INJECTOR, we still had leaks. I opted to use a local dude to buils a custom fuel rail. i had the injectors flow tested and cleaned while i was waiting on the rail, on top of making a battery mount bracket for competition tech passing-standards. hopefully ill have something positive to post up in the following week. Also in the market for a data logit after the 1st of the month for my PFC.
if anyone is selling lemme know. |

Thats a steep ass angle on the steering!! Im digging the front end. Like it.

So im back from the dead. had issues with a bad oil leak, will explain that later. Ended up getting it shipped when i moved from El Paso, TX to Rockville, MD where my dad owns a shop. Good news is that i was able to get her on the lift and really dig in. and by dig in, i mean strip that interior.
Attachment 680120 I was able to track down one of my MAJOR oil leaks, the seal behind the crank pulley had collapsed and fell inside, so that is gonna get put in tommorow and started back up. heres how shes sitting now: Attachment 680121 and changed out my BOV to one that wasnt crap, and doesnt leak: Attachment 680122 |
goodluck can't wait to see some action shots
|
Fixed the front main seal, lined up the pulley properly, as well as making sure the trigger wheel was not F-ed up in the process. Now the car will idle, but breaks up during reving at 2400 and wont go past 3K without bad backfiring. AFRs go a bit lean but my map seems to be pretty solid. Super frustrating, debating on going from stage 9 to stage 7 plugs and going from there.
Anyone got some advice? |
^hmmm. It ran fine before correct? Usually the it would idle crappy too if you needed new plugs. how much power are you making?/ I'd run 9's all around for under 12psi.. changing the plugs wouldn't hurt but i'm pretty sure it's not the trigger wheel...as it only goes on one way so you can't really mess it up... And it's heat range for plugs not stages ;-) if you're anywhere over stock power levels then 7's are useless. Start with the plugs....make sure plug wires and coils are properly installed... there have been a few times when I put a trailing on a leading coil/plug haha. Hope you get it figured out soon!
|
Did you confuse the two trigger wheel plugs and put them on mixed up?
|
So i pulled out the compression tester and ive only got 80 psi solid in both housings. when i did the single conversion, i was set up at 9psi off of the waste gate (GT35R) and it hit 9psi no problem for about a month. But a bout two weeks before the seal blew, i was only getting to 5.5psi, and i checked all my hoses three times for vaccuum leaks with no avail. I was able to get her to start and idle after replacing the front main seal, but now she refuses to start. Motor is a JDM 13B-REW with unknown mileage and chassis has 135k on it.
everything im looking at is leaning towards rebuild. Thoughts? |
Get your porting tools ready, buy some degreaser, get the beer and dig in there. You'll be amazed at where compression loss can occur in one of these. Good luck!!
|
So it has a blown seal, 80psi compression on both housings... And now won't start? The starting issue might just be flooded, but the low compression...= high miles..prob just needs a rebuild man.
|
Mine had 70psi and it starte easy hot or cold. If it was working before you messed with it then its most likely a user error.
You had to remove the pulley and trigger wheel, yes? so maybe it was put on wrong. |
i lined up the woodriff key, torqued crankpulley down to 98 lb/ft while having the flywheel locked, also made sure that the trigger points are clear of the trigger wheel, i had cleaned out the connectors to the triggers and reconnected them. She cranks, and starts to catch herself, but will not stay running, even while babying the throttle trying to keep it alive.

got her running right with a new set of plugs ans a bit of a leaner tube with other things hooked up. I was killing it on some 2nd and 3rd gear corners (passenger confirmed an 85 mph entry one time!!!). Not too bad for being off the track for 6 years. I am trying to source action shots, as i went to the track solo and couldnt get a camera man, but here is what happened on my last run..... Attachment 677549 Attachment 677550 Attachment 677551 Attachment 677552 Attachment 677553 Went off track after one of my rear tires went bald and then hooked off track. Went off at about 65-70 mph and hit some spongy wall pads along the wall instead of the concrete wall head on. Whomp Whomp. Heres how shes looking after taking off crap and getting ready to get the bodywork in order and sort out a small coolant leak resulting from the crash. Attachment 677554 On an unrelated note, looking for headlight covers for both drivers and passenger sides |

took out the inner fender wells and some other crap, started doing a mockup for making my own front bash bar. Attachment 676414 Attachment 676415 Attachment 676416 Rivetted and bondoed the problem areas on the hood, fender and bumper. They went into paint last night, just need to throw the car on a frame machine to straighten the rail out to finish the mounts for the bash bar. |
Hopefully picking up the car from the frame shop later, then bolting the front end back on to check for fittiment issues. After that, probally hitting up Lowes to get some plate steel to finish my front bash bar setup.
Pics to come! |
I wish you had never bought this car.
