driftfcbuckey 03-07-11 01:10 AM

my mind is gone with trying to figure out my steering situation... i need to re-do one spindle.

i need to get 2 new tie-rods since mine were cut for the old spindles, and now i need that extra 1/2" back. i moved the balljoint, and now my tie rod angle is too extreme. i need to move the rack up a little, and raise the car....
on top of all that i still need to get a set of 35 series front tires since they're rubbing chassis. i guess i'm going to do tubs to fix it all or maybe just cut it out for now, and tub it later.

still no ECU.... still need to wire the chassis.
i'm laggin'

there was a dude selling secret element extended tie rods out here. they're already extended the length of a rack spacer. but i've been broke/using my money for court fees....
i'll look into the mazdatrix ones

sounds expensive already haha PS2k is sick!
i need to get money first to buy anything. if you want to message me a price i'll see if it's even near my budget for an ems. trying to get my traffic fines all paid off to get clean/clear of looking over my shoulder 24/7 out here.

idk if i need another spacers worth. i screwed up, and added a bunch of DMAX mini spacers from 240s, and i had to cut some of the inner threads of the outer tie rod end off + i originally cut off that 1/2" or so off the tie rod itself. so if i were to just start over, i'd probably be good. but idk.

my right wheel rubs the tub where the injector resistor pack used to be bad before it gets near lock. then it rubs the rear frame rail before the brake caliper bolt hits the LCA. i need to redo the right spindle, and lower balljoint, because i noticed it's slightly bent upward from hitting the infield wall @ Irwindale.

so im hoping new spindle, new balljoint, and two uncut tie-rods will be able to get my alignment straight, and not rub anything at lock. i should try to back out camber a little also. maybe that could help since my front wheels are -31 offset and still hitting.

the wastegate or the eardrums?

driftfcbuckey 03-18-11 03:26 PM

we dont need those. ^

driftfcbuckey 03-23-11 08:15 AM

scored a TII parts car for stupid cheap the other night. have a full backup drivetrain for this season, as well as a spare motor i'm rebuilding with fresh RA 2mm cryo/race spring kit. going to have it pinned, and hopefully built between round 1, and round 2 depending on how much time i have.
photos coming soon.

still in the process of painting the car, and finishing up the tube chassis. kinda behind, but at the same time not really. could bang everything out in a week if i have to.

Daviticus 03-23-11 02:09 PM

Doin' work son!

revox7 03-23-11 06:09 PM

what color are you painting your car?

driftfcbuckey 03-23-11 10:41 PM

redoing the inside gunmetal grey metallic, and cusco blue mettalic cage with mazora flake/clear like my engine bay.

the outside is either going to be black, or viper red. leaning towards black again... it's just too sick.

laramiejoe 03-23-11 11:54 PM

Not black. haha

K!NCH 03-23-11 11:58 PM

Once you go black, you don't go back.

any photos? idk i'm really into the straight wet black. this time i want to take my time and wet sand before clear and add a lot of coats. i like the depth perception with black colors. the only thing i hate is when you do one run the car gets blasted dirty looking.... another downfall is the swirl marks you get from trying to keep it clean at the track...

i still have some HOK blue pearl but i really don't feel like messing with it... i know i'll butcher it. if anything i might try to get done with some ultra fine blue flake. gotta screw with some spray patterns to see how it will lay.

Zenki FC3S 03-24-11 09:34 AM

SeYou can use sg100 which is intercoat clear. 5 grams of pearl over black wood look nice. Thats how much I used.

It takes up to a half gallon of the intercoat clear unmixed to do a bn fc. More fore better effect

Daviticus 03-24-11 11:14 AM

Why spend all this time with paint, when you're gonna hit another K-rail?

Hitting shit carries more steez points than a good-looking paint job.

ball bearing in the cup, and x pattern spray? or normal spray (left to right strokes)
i've never messed with it is the only reason i ask.

i guess i could screw with it on an over fender since it's small/easy to redo.

Zenki FC3S 03-24-11 07:35 PM

Dude lay it down like regular base coat. 50% overlap. Dont do over 4 coats of sg100. Dbc500 can have like 10 coats and wont crack.

Its nothing special

i had assumed that was a given?
ive seen some pretty butchered pearl attempts locally so im just thinking myself to death probably..

10thslydur 03-25-11 11:20 AM

I use a pearl carrier usually like on my car but my car has baby flake in it,
Like chance said simplify by putting it your first couple coats of clear then just top coat with a couple coats of straight, it will add depth to the pearl and make it more vibrant and also add even more depth to the black cause you have Built more coats over the black base, do this, then if u want cut and cuff the bitch and shit with look like and oil slick!

4WDrift 03-26-11 05:55 AM

agreed^ more coats of clear the better, that way you can go back over with 6oo, 1000, 2ooo and buffing compound and it will turn out baller. But i also agree with that shit just getting fucked after a bit. If your pushing as hard as you normally do your gonna remove your bumper a couple times and tap your tandem buddys and it gonna just have taken alot of time away for nothing.

EPD 03-26-11 02:46 PM

You can also just add the pearl to the black and spray it. If you do it that way you eliminate the mid coats, and have a lesser chance of tiger striping the car with pearls or possibly running the clear and having a pearl sag.

i have a friend who just did yellow with a blue pearl that was in the clear, and it did sag in a few spots. didnt keep it mixed up well either. idk why, but i assumed if you mixed it in with black, once you thin the paint alot for the final wet coats the black pigment would eliminate the pearl. thats why i thought it had to be in the clear to show.

tried using my devilbiss gun today to lay primer on the cage/interior, and thanks to my pops for leaving thinner in it for 3 months it pisses out of the trigger... theres an oring that is swollen/cracked now :/ going to get some more and try to get it going for tomorrow. anyone else have good quality guns? i want to upgrade to a 3 piece set soon. 1 for primer, 1 for color, and 1 for clear. i have a primer, and a color devilbiss kit right now, and a mini gun for small stuff (i never use it) what are some good companies to look into??

Black is a pretty cool color when it comes to mixing in pearls and metallics, it will show everything.

DeVilbiss guns are good quality guns. DeVilbiss makes a 2 piece set thats good for novice or anyone else not doing production painting and are relatively inexpensive too. Check out the Devilbiss finish line guns, also your local paint shop will probably have the o ring for your current gun.

10thslydur 03-27-11 12:12 AM

I only use sata guns and iwata airbrushes period

Zenki FC3S 03-27-11 12:31 AM

Iwata eclipse is the shit. But yea get three guns so you dont have to dial them in each time you use different paint

stevensimon 03-27-11 09:31 AM

I only use HF. Best shit out there.

i hate to say it but i prefer the $15 harbor freight gun over my $600 devilbiss kit....
idk why, but that shit always lays consistent, and doesnt act up.

last time i sprayed my car with my devilbiss it was acting up. so i used the aluminum cup on a $15 harbor freight gun, and was amazed at how good it was.

haha i read that and thought arrogant prick... then i remembered i mainly spray with sata!

Buckey, harbor freight guns are straight knock offs of an older quality gun i used to have, they were so close you could swap parts between them.

driftfcbuckey 03-27-11 05:52 PM

thats funny you say that, because i actually used my harbor freight needle (inside the trigger) in my devilbisss to see if it made it work better, and come to think of it, it's still in there. damn. that explains everything.
last time my dad used it he was spraying my aero when i was putting the motor in the chassis, and i forgot about that being swapped.

funny. lol maybe i got hosed on my devilbiss and it's china made? haha real talk though it is older. i've had it for almost 5 years.

RXILVER7 03-28-11 10:55 AM

I think your car would look hot in red with the gold wheels. But black is the shit too.

driftfcbuckey 03-28-11 07:10 PM

Today just got AWESOME! Huge thanks to Jon Chase for the fresh DSTROYR gear! Can't wait for this season to start! Really looking forward to driving again! Definitely the BOOST i needed! Thanks again man!
