im gonna have to compression test my motor today.
leaving the event, it flooded out, and wouldnt start...towards the way home, it started mis firing, and seemed as if theres a stuck corner seal/side seal... today i drove it around for a bit, and it completely fell apart. im hoping like whoa that its just a coil pack, harness, shitty TPS, or something minor, but with my luck i know it'll be blown...

im so bummed i havent even fucked with it...

the next event is 2 months away and my broke ass has no job....

a little delayed update...
since the last event, i pulled the motor stripped the engine bay, and took it to forest's new shop out here to have him stitch it up.

picking it up tomorrow and have to start painting it. bought new BN from him, got a supermade hood vents for my NA aluminum hood.

the motor has been apart for a few weeks. ordered an atkins kit with RWS water seals/gaskets. the rear rotor took a shit. the timing was firing dead on the apex seals almost... one broken apex seal, and a cracked front iron water passage.

got the rebuild kit/rotor/iron/housing from my sponsor EAM/area77rotorworks. theyre putting it back together with a small streetport, but opening up the exhaust ports a shit load. got an oldschool TRUST 3"Downpipe, rear camberbar.
had forest make me some spindles to get nutty angle... still need to pay for that shit though... lol fucking taxxed out for money right now... still need over fenders and tires, and a standalone...

if this motor blows im letting forest source me an SR and we're fabbing that shit up.
pics tomorrow when i pick it up.

hoping to make the XDC vegas event may 22nd.

davedge 04-24-10 07:21 PM

SR's aren't any better... the head set up/rockers are probably one of the worst designs for high rpm applications...

Rotarys are not good if you aren't doing everything the right way at once... but if you spend your money the right way, they are pretty reliable race engines.

Good luck, anyways.

hahaha c'mon bro, it's forrest.... lol
fucker is OG.

i got the car back yesterday, dropped off my spindles.

poor mike's car is all piled on the wall of shame.... he totalled it bombing top of 3rd at a vegasdrift event. his new shit's gonna be sick.
forrest is getting all nutty on the track car for xdc shit's mental.

i know... what i meant more or less is im not getting 7 motors into this shit.
this is already motor number 5 in 3 years. i've only done 10 events or so, but street drove for like a year.

this is my last attempt. hell RB, 1j/2j, anything but LS... im just getting burnt out on sitting out and not driving...

NoPistons! 04-26-10 04:01 PM

SR's are great if you put solid lifters and better springs in them.

I've been reading up that the rocker arm stoppers will cause the rockers to break vs just falling off.

My vote goes to 1j but you can play with an sr and still have it reliable if you put the coin towards reliability but you already know this.

i know a little about them, but not much.....
i just get so bummed when forrest and all my other SR friends tell me they're motors are like 5 yrs strong and shit... forrests shit will hop a rocker maybe once or twice a year, but he drives the shit out of it, and does a gang of events/street driving...

alll these rich ass kids here have fully built 13's, and 14's, and they have stock SR's that bust.... my friend phil has had his SR with a 2871R for 5 years.... shits more nuts than forrests street car sometimes.

TopGunn 04-29-10 09:58 AM

the motor was/is still in stockish form?

good inspiration man keep it up.

scrapp 04-29-10 10:13 AM

What was the total weight of dry icing the tar out? My buddy did his FC, weighed it, and it came out to 100lbs.....

You're doing something wrong. What's your engine set up like? Stock turbo?

i know... this time i got lucky for it lasting as long as it did...
this car never had a wideband, never got timed, completely stock, minus an FCD, 3" DP, straighpipe... etc. had stock injectors and boosting at 10-14lbs when i'd upshift 3rd but would usually chill at 9ish, snipped wastegate line, and i just railed on it.... i beat the hell out of it. my friend timed it (hes been building crazy motors for a while) just did it by sound... it was fast, but also sped up the process of it dying.
either way its whatever. the new motor is built. im buying a haltech, and making sure this one lasts cause i like the motor's. just sucks not driving and spending money that i dont have....

i dont think it was that much... i did the front later than the rear.... i did the rearend first, and moved to the front weeks later when i did the cage the week before the pro-ams. at that time i took out everything. i'd say start to finish maybe i killed off 120lbs tops with the a/c, and heater shit. plus the tar, and interior components.... but i put in the cage, a fatty sub, and speakers/tweets to get down to when im driving so it's about the same... just way stiffer. <- no homo.
the shop vac was heavy as fuck though when i did the entire front area.

If you wanna be cheap, you can get your ecu chipped, run 850cc secondaries, and get a boost controller and be fine. The trick to stock ecu is big secondaries, and you have the best ecu because it's an '87 so it uses low impedance injectors. Haltech would be best though.

thats what i ran last time. i had an rtek with rebuilt gsl-se's and afe 1000cc secondaries. it still ran out of fuel. i do need a boost controller, and i called the dude with the haltech so im going to pick it up tonight.,... im so broke, i have no tires, blown coilovers, and i still have to pay for XDC, and buy widefenders to take my car to springmountain autobody so they can spray it all in like 2 weeks.... and im buying a damn ecu.... if i make this event it will be a miracle...

we'll see how it goes. i appreciate the help. i'm really hesitant to try new setups on my motors cause for one, i hardly have the cash to do it, and for two it always results in killing a motor and now we have a grand tied up in my new keg.... i dont want to kill it...<- the motor. lol

joe, seriously your car is the shit btw.

lol theyre not mine. the burgundy car is a caged shell incase i total my car. the black fc is mine with the weird wheels.
my friend/sponsor chris is a collector.
he has a turboII powered b2200 truck with EMS, AIM display, fuel cell, crazy shit.
RHD FD track car
RHD FC daily
tons of 7 posted up.

he said if i do good, he's going to let me build an FD shell that he has with some body damage for next year. wants to do a Pport 3rotor NA. i have to throw in a gang of cash and effort but its my motivation to do good. plus i just want to get better, and have fun. chris, owner of euroasian motorworks, vegasrotary.com, and area77rotorworks (the rotary shop) has steve singh of R&R rotary coming back and forth to build motors and do some tuning to his cars.
they've helped me a shit load this time around, and i want to do whatever i can to repay them. if he wouldnt have bought my harness', and built my motor, i'd be out of the game same like last year...

who ever's coming out for XDC, message me for my number. i know tons of drift dudes out here so im sure i can find a place for you to crash for the weekend.

you have a fuel pressure gauge in your car? If not, put one in asap when you get your car running again. Fuel pressure might be falling off at high rpm under boost. Oh, and my names Jeremy by the way, my name on here is just a dumb play with letters. The car's coming together pretty nice, and looks like you're driving pretty good, but it sucks when mechanical problems hold you back.

i'm busting on it now, but the Eshaft has a welded pilot bearing in it. waiting for a phone call on wtf to do...lol

driftfcbuckey 05-02-10 11:05 PM

broken pilot shaft bearing... shit's all broken/welded inside the eshaft. hopefully i can get the majority of it out, or else i'm stuck waiting till my friend gets back from cali to rip it apart and swap eshafts.... we should've looked when it was apart, but spaced it.... shit happens when you rush. what can you do...

justin i know the pics are shitty, but any suggestions? i have the specific tool, but its litterally welded it seems. can i grind it out with an air grinder? never ran into this before, and i need to be more self dependant on this for time's sake.

good build so far! on the cage, i thought the halo had to be made out of 1 piece of tubing...wonder why they made the a pillars go all the way back to the main hoop?

J.T.P. 05-03-10 05:22 PM

well i guess u got it sorted!!! car's looking awesome, reminds me of my car back in the day... flake EVERYWHERE!! haha..

i won't be driving the FC at xdc, I can only drive a Mustang in competition this year.. i'm not complaining though.. haha... the FC will be at all star bash though for sure!!!

good luck out there bro, i'm sure you'll be rippin! btw how are you for your suspension setup? if you need any tips hit me up via pm.. i'll be in and out throughout the week.. i'm doing a ride and drive demo with ford up in Detroit this week, but i'll do what i can to give you some input if you need it...

either configuration is accepted. either halo config or a pillars with head tube.

thanks dude. i really appreciate it. i want to make all star bash, but idk how to get in, and i can't fucking sign up on ziptied...lol been trying to get josh h. to get me in, but he's always busy....

suspension i'm really lacking on... i finally got a camber bar. was running like 3degrees rear camber, and having to demount/flip my tires to get use out of them. still need to get DTSS elims, and do that. i really only have the super now angle kit, and some knockoff/ebay D2 looking purple spray painted coilovers. i got them for free off a friend awhile back when i first started. he bought them for the camber plates, and i picked them up. i have to get new ones, cause my front caster is way off. im guessing theyre bent cause my car is straight. or maybe the factory rubber upper mounts? i had to drill the holes bigger to get them in.

it always flips back easy sliding one way but the other it just gets burried at lock, and wants to stay.
idk. kinda just adapted to it, and havent cared...

the crazy ass stories forrest is always telling me about you at htm makes me want to drive that place so bad! linking that back uphill section in 4th is nuts fucking nutty guy! haha! he always says good things!

good to know, some how i see the 1 piece halo being stronger, the a pillar with head tube does seem a whole ton easier to fabricate thats for sure

motor's in, starter harness is all hooked up! shit takes forever when youre lazy, and having to clean/repair everything to make it all look G! im over it i just want to drive already.
left the shop at 5am, stayed up went to work, and now im sick as fuck... shouldve just stopped, slept, worked, and went back... now im donezo for a day.

driftfcbuckey 05-05-10 01:35 AM

paid for XDC RD.2 tonight. can't wait to get my injectors back from RC.
550cc/680cc gsl-se's. i put the RC 900's off to the side until i pay for the haltech... paycheck to paycheck shit sucks.

had to make sacrifices for the pro am point series this year...

i still own another one, but fuck i miss this car..

motor's in and i feel like death...
