Defined Autoworks 42R, 20b, v-mount, stock subframe FD.

Here is our 20B project that we have finished up a few weeks ago. Its taken many hours of custom fabrication, and what we feel is a unique approach to a 42R 20B.

Specs--

--C series 20b, All new rotor housings, dynamically balanced, NRS ceramic apex seals, Race rotor bearings, our own oil/ coolant modifications. Circuit Street Port intake and exhaust.
--Exedy triple plate clutch
--GT42R turbo
--Tial 60mm wastegate
--Electromotive Tec3R ecu
--Electromotive inductive coils
--D.A. custom turbo manifold, 321 stainless
--D.A. custom 3.5" downpipe and exhaust 304 stainless
--D.A. subframe conversion kit, and modified lower intake
--D.A custom intake box and filter
--D.A custom intercooler and radiator
--D.A custom intercooler pipes
--Twin setrab oil coolers
--Aeromotive kevlar braided oil lines
--Twin supra fuel pumps
--Aimsports race dash display
--Kaaz limited slip diff

Ever since the start of this project, the customer and us wanted it to have a full stock subframe. We also all know how much heat a 20b turbo produces, so a V-mount proved essential. After a lot of fitting and measuring, the GT42R turbo combined with stock subframe, a V-mount, and stock trans location proved very difficult. But with a bit of hard headiness, and creativeness it started to come together smoothly. The end result was worth it, placing the turbo backwards! This makes for much less weight over the front axle as well. A custom air box had to be made, and alot of heat shielding was added anywhere possible. Even with back to back dyno runs, the intake temps never got much above ambient. On the street the coolant and oil temps stay very cool, and after lots of hard abuse, never see much past 90C. The spool-up is great, power is broad to 8500rpm. So far its made 575rwhp at 15psi.

Here are the pics!

AIM sports dash display mounted and wired in. This unit is NICE!

Custom undertray.

Dyno charts

So that is the car, hope you enjoyed it. More pics are in the 20b section.

I saw this car last weekend at a meet in Atlanta.... and lemme tell you WOW... I thought very highly of your shop from your work on your 20B NA 3rd gen... but this thing was astounding... I absolutely love the setup you came up with to allow a V mount... You deserve a big thumbs up on a job that was very well done, and it paid a whole lot of attention to detail...

WOW....That is simply amazing. A lot of time/money/dedication has been put into that thing, I would only hope to have a nice setup like that. Maybe once I start making more money, I can afford such venues.

That is a very interesting intake setup definitively thinking backwards haha, literally. I looked at it for awhile like what the heck is that until I saw the position of the turbo. Looks sweet!

Isn't this going to need a hole in the back of the hood?

There was already existing vents that we enlarged. But yes it has two vents just for the intake box.

Surprinsingly enough we built it very modular so that everything comes apart with ease. Alot easier than originally feared

Yeah He's from dayton. He is in the air force though and was transferred to something like Atlanta, Mikes his name IIRC. Really nice guy from when I talked to him.

Car and build are amazing, I've seen it in person and heard it run.

Curious question - where does the turbo draw air from? Looks like it is pulling air from a custom filter? Does this impede air flow when the hood is closed? Nice numbers and as you mentioned the torque curve is definitely shifted up in the power band. My 20B makes more torque down low as it has the stock UIM.

Love your kit! Any plans to have something like this available with AC? Gotta have it in the south

There are vents in the hood that does not restrict air flow. We are almost done with our new 20b kit that allows you to keep A/C and power steering. Stay posted!

You make that (with AC and power steering) and you'll have a very marketable kit on your hands.

Nice Job!

Logan,
You did a really nice job on this car. I met the owner this weekend and went for a ride. I've been in 3 20B cars and quite a number of hotrod 7's now and there were a couple things that set this car apart:

1. The sound - because of the airbox, the turbo wail is unlike anything I've ever heard. Much louder than the engine exhaust note and more visceral. Exhaust note was great, too - much deeper growl than the other 3 20B's I've seen in person and the numerous videos I've watched on the web. Definitely want my next car to sound like this.

2. The completeness of the install - very thorough job. Pipes wrapped, wires tucked away, no leaks. The pictures show this, but seeing the work in person was impressive.

3. The tune - most modified cars have various hiccups (including the RP, Demetrios and Kan tuned cars I've seen and owned). This car had none under load and no starting problems. I think high air temps or an electrical load caused a low idle if the car sat for a few minutes, but this tune was still in the top 5% of what I've seen.

It goes without saying that the car was fast... and I think I only saw 50% throttle....

Wanted to give this endorsement since I don't think many have seen or been in the car. From what I gathered, the owner is not a big forum user - but hope we'll see him out at the Deals Gap event this year.

Really quality install with a motor swap only a few have seemed to get right.
Best,
John
