PLEASE be careful practicing for DGRR
well, my girlfriend and i are sitting in my driveway in her car about to part ways for the day. i receive a multimedia text. i expected some lude message with some naked picture. instead i receive the pic of the bottom side of a car with the top planted into a tree with the message farewell at the bottom.
some of you may remember the mazdaspeed protege at last years meet. that was my friends and i. well him and another of our friends was off today practicing for DGRR on a notoriously curvey road. they chose the wrong time of the day to do so. right at the end on their way back there was a break in the trees and the sun blinded my friends vision. he didnt see the upcoming curve until it was much too late. he rolled the MSP into a tree and totaled it.
my other friend was following him in his new S2000. he said he almost followed him off the road due to teh sunlight. he said they werent even pushing the limits hard cause they were right at the end heading home.
the girlfriend and i rushed to the ER to see him. when we got there he was heading back with his mom who is a RN nurse. he stopped and talked to us for a minute. hes fine. his hand is cut up, and he had dry blood all over his face and neck.
want to know what the first thing he said when he exited the car was? "shoot, now i guess i have to ride with someone to deals gap."
this is EXACTLY why i wont be pushing my car at the meet. im going to meet and hangout, not to race. if i wanted to push the envelope id do so on teh track with the proper safety equipment. i refuse to risk my girlfriends life in such a manor. i hope you all just be calm this year. i understand peopel want to have fun. i just dont want to see anyone get hurt. so if you get behind me on the dragon and youd like to drive faster than im going, flash your lights, ill let you over

Maybe you all remember me, last year I was the champagne FC that spun. I may be coming back with newer wheels, tires, TII drivetrain, and 4 piston brakes, but after last year, I do not want to put my brother's life, my girlfriends, or my life in that position again. Heed my warning, the Dragon does bite, I got a small bite. Enjoy the road, don't race it.

Thanks guys for posting this... I know others have said this before but its a public road and safety should be your number one concern. Just as JdriftM mentioned, "Enjoy the road!". This doesn't mean you have to push to the limit to do so...
I recently talked to a good friend of mine who tracks and AutoX his FD and he said that he's concerned about pushing his car on the 'Dragon'... and he's been there before and has several years of experience in track/autox. Don't be a show off at this event and think of others.

My fastest time through will probably be with the group I lead/follow and if I'm leading I will try to taylor to my members, but only to the point I feel safe, and feel like other people are safe, dependent on driving experience and age.
