I hope everyones preperation for Deals Gap has gone smoother than this.

Sorry for the long read.

So I get a break in the weather about 3 weeks ago and take the car out after being up for the winter. I wanted to work on some gain settings on the boost controller because I was getting a spike. So I'm out doing some pulls and adjusting the %. After 45 minutes or so, I'm all set. I do one last pull, make good smooth power and I'm satisfied. Then I notice I have a rattle coming from the clutch. Damn it! I push the clutch in, it goes away. The car is transferring power fine. It just rattles. I'm in 2nd, give it some gas and everything is fine with no rattle. I let off, and the rattle is back. The motor and clutch have 3800 miles on them with a new throw out bearing. So I'm scratching my head. I call a good friend (the rotary god, Mike), and tell him what's going on. Sounds like the pilot bearing. Need to drop tranny and see. I'm not a mechanic. I have helped and tried to learn all I can while we did the build in my garage. I needed his help. We get into it a few days later and find the Pilot bearing had cracks in the cylinders. We replace the bearing, and put the tranny back in. I decide now is a good time to change the fluid too. So I put in some MT-90. I did the break fluid too, and put in new plugs with fresh oil and filter. It seemed like a good time for new wipers also. And I put on the short shift and a rear dif brace. I also figured I'd drain the radiator and get some fresh coolant in there and see if any sediment came out. Nothing came out, so I was happy with that. I also repainted the intake pipes, IC pipes, the elbow, UIM, and throttle body. I just wanted to be sure everything was ready to go for the trip.
So the car is back together and has some fresh stuff on it. I'm ready to go for Deals Gap. I start the car up and the rattle is still there. WTF!! We thought that the rattle could have been the front tranny bearing also, but with seeing the cracks in the pilot bearing, we figured we had found the problem. Either way that bearing needed replaced. But now we have to sort this out and I'm running out of time. One thing the RX7 guys know about me here is, I'm 24/7 when it comes to getting something done on the car. If the part is on order, than I have made arrangements with someone if I need help putting it in. So now it looks like this tranny bearing is the issue, but we need to be sure the tranny is ok. So, we I drain it and open it up. Everything like great. I was thinking I might have a few teeth lying in there or something. After all, the car has 121,000 on it. At this time I have 5 RX7 guys that have offered to come over and take a look. I'm floored. First of all; we have a hard time getting together to hag out. Let a lone help each other with our cars. For quite sometime everyone went through the process and the functions of what moves when and what made something else move. We didn't want to do this again, nor did any of us have the time. We drained the oil at this time to see if by chance there were any chunks of metal in there. Everyone was going off my description. None of them heard it first hand. The oil was clean with no shavings. BTW, This was last Friday evening. We decide that the bearing is the issue and fixing it will take too long. Apparently, the tool needed to pull the bearing, no one around here has. So my friend Mike offers up a deal on the tranny from his car that is down. We set it up so we will put it in Sunday night, when I get home from National Guard all weekend. So Sunday gets here and we can't get in touch with the place where the tranny is stored to let us in and get it. Time is running out. Today at noon I get a call saying he has the tranny and is on his way over. Great, some progress. We get the tranny in with no problems. And start putting things back together. I'm putting the starter on and notice a wire hanging. It goes to the oil sensor on the oil pan. With age, it just broke off. No one has one. The RX7 store says they can order it and have it next day. So I say do it. Now I'm writing this and eating at 10pm. I'm going back out in a bit to put the tranny fluid in and I'm going to wait for the part to come in tomorrow to start it. These guys know how much I have been looking forward to going to Deals Gap. I'm writing this to say thank you to the guys; Mike, Vila, Tony, Zavor, and Luke. I bought this car 2 years ago bone stock. It is now running maxed out stock twins with some great ideas on it. These guys have taken the time to show me and help me learn how this car works. I have a long way to go, but I can only hope that all of us have people like this around them. Thanks for reading.

Damn. It seems like sometimes you can't get a break. I've been there. Good luck and once you're on the dragon, it will seem like it didn't happen at all.

Good, glad to see you got Mike's old one in already. I was going to call. But
I read this instead. If you need anything, you have my number. I can get any
stock parts next day also. That is if Jason can't get it.
You will go to DGRR this weekend!

Chris you're absolutely right.

Luke, I'll know today what's up and let you know. We had air tools to work with yesterday, so that saved us at least 45 min. I got Mikes tensioner pulley. However, it needs a lot of cleaning up. I've been grinding on it a bit already this morning. As you saw, it's 20 small things that I want/need done. Not to mention once it is running, I have to let Tony have more time with it (fingers crossed there). Thanks again.

Phil, It's like Vila makes parts at his house. He just seems to have stuff. lol. The guys here have been great. I didn't mention Carl , but he and I have gone back and forth helping on each others car. It's going to be a lot of fun this weekend.

Thanks for the read guys. I realize my time line and structure of what I wrote above is a bit difficult to follow. It was written with a little haste. But, I thought I would share. I WILL see you this weekend. Now back to the garage.

Glad to hear, Luke. You have been working on her in secret for awhile now. Bring it over tonight. We will be at my place doing the fuel filter after 6. I have pizza and beverages. Feel free to stop by and hang out.

The part came in. I will put it on as soon as I get home (this place I work is slowing down my progress on the car.lol)

Phil, this is going to be a great weekend because of all the planning you have done for it. Thanks for everything you have done. Looking forward to meeting you.

I feel you man. I was insanely busy at work and had to wait until this week to start getting ready. -Change the oil
-Change the plugs
-Inspect all the vacuum hoses
-FINALLY INSTALL MY FD FUEL PUMP!!! (with new strainer of course)
-Inspected the brakes already-100%
-Clean it sometime....

She has been sitting with the nose up on jackstands for a few days now, and I have noticed some oil moisture at the rear of the pan that was not there before. I hope thats not a problem.

Mine still needs a bath, guess I'll have to wash it in the rain today, and pull it inside and dry it off. Hope my newly made motor mount, and changed plugs run ok because I haven't had a chance to drive the car.

Glad to see everyone is busy.

My tranny issue seems fixed. I haven't had a chance to drive the car yet. Seems somehow, I have done something to create an idle surge. Couplers, vac lines, and all plug ins' are in place. I'm scratching my head a bit now, but I'll find it.
