stolen vehicle section

this little bit just came to me durring the searching process i went through to locate a vehicle of mine.

i think a section dedicated to helping owners find their stolen cars might be a good idea. while posting in other sections my help owners it certainly can't provide the kind of traffic that a front page forum could.

just a suggestion,

Ray

It's called the regional section! There's no point in having a "stolen vehicle section." First off, there's really not enough stolen vehices to warrent having one, and 2nd you'd still be better off posting it in the regional section because the whole forum isn't located near you, so they'd never see/find it anyways.

of course, but isn't prominence the idea here? most of the forum participants don't surf their regional message boards let alone keep an eye out for stolen car threads.

in most cases, stolen high performance cars don't get driven around, they get parted out - especially if they've been modded with valuable aftermarket parts. i think front page status to stolen cars and parts could be usefull in the sense that more people would have knowledge of the types of parts to be on the lookout for.

lets say someone with a modded FC (to4, exhaust, ecu, built engine - the works) has his car stolen in hoboken, NJ. the person who stole the vehicle targeted that vehicle because he knew of the parts on the vehicle and their "street" value. said person decides to strip the car down and sell the parts. who is that person going to sell those parts to? obviously to someone with interest in those parts - either to use them or resell them.

now, considering the number of individuals registered on this forum and who regularly surf this forum it seems like there is a pretty good chance that someone would be in the vacinity of the stolen vehicle and be able to help investigate and that person might not neccesarily surf his regional message board.

with selling technology the way it is today someone can steal a car in oregon and sell the parts in miami - eBay, forums, online swap meets, etc.

the world is a lot smaller now and the more eyes you have looking for something the better chance you have of finding it.
