I donno, if newbs don't read the stickys in the forums, what makes you think they'll read their own forum?
also, fellas, really...this isn't a paid membership or a secret society...its good to keep it cleaned up, but actually restricting people because of their lack of knowledge in a particular area seems rather fascist...
and lastly, I read over that FAQ and it looks like it could be cleaned out/added on to...maybe instead of a newb forum or 200 stickys at the top of each forum, take a couple of weeks, rewrite the FAQ, write it in HTML get it hosted on geocities or something, and hotlink it to the front page of the forums, right at the top...perhaps steal a little CSS to make it follow you as you scroll?
lets be more creative about the situation than authoritative.

im a noob and dont know if this would be a good idea, what about posts in the regional boards? im going to get a fd soon (hopefully by next weekend) and will def be using this forum for help. i already own an 8 and have been over on that board and the noob questions we get over there could be found by searching, i grant you, BUT the problem i see w/searching is that you may not know the key words to type in. would a noob section fix this? maybe
btw way ive got a good flame suit for this site that isnt used much on the 8 forum (hopefully i wont need it )

^ you might want to double it up around here.
I have to agree with the idea of directing newcomers into a section that will make them apply some effort and let them have a cool off period from the thrill of having one of these very unique and interesting cars, and wanting to know the answers to all there questions RIGHT NOW.
Essentially it’s the chicken and the egg, the problem is that there are to many threads to wade through and get good information quickly, so they post another thread in there impatience only adding to the pile and making it worse for the next newb that cant seem to spend the time searching through the haze.
I have personally seen this help other forums that I regular, and I have also been withheld from posting for a grace period on several of them. For anyone that really cares about the quality and content of the forum that we love, I am sure they can wait and endure a small grace period for the grater sake of a better forum for everyone. I know it was frustrating, but I appreciate the large benefits that came with the small inconvenience.
I think doing this might help bring back some of the vets and not drive away other great members and help others post more info on topics that have not been finished yet, without the usually cyclical rifraf and buzzers just wanting to cause trouble or want to carry on useless chit chat in a technical thread that is in a appropriate section.
And it really remind me of a thread from another forum I regular. I am not going to say I am not guilty of the offence, but it is getting very bad around here.

If charging admission is not an option and introducing a grace period is not an option what other proactive things can be done to make this a better place for the people that truly do not want to see this place just dissolve into so many other useless forums, of which we already have enough of! Here we have a place to understand our cars and learn about topics we care about (I would never leave regardless) why cant we at least try different methods that will make it better?
And I think I understand the underlying reasons why these things haven’t changed, but why must it be so one sided? Why have some sites had great success from this move? You are trying to build numbers, yet in my experience it is driving the people that make this forum a great place to just leave out of frustration! I can think of two of the big dogs just this month that have had enough and have moved on. They will be sorely missed, and there seem to be very few that are trying to step up and take there place nor want to.

fart on a friends head!!!
thank you, thats pretty much the "jist" of it.
another reason this move would be good is that there are just so many newbies out there. they ask so many questions. ive tried helping them out, but it gets old. having to constantly cater to the newbie questions is ridiculous in my opinion. . . when they could be put in a newbie forum where they would stay until theyre ready to move on. if they keep their questions in the newbie forum. . . they can be answered in the newbie forum, and that would keep GOOD Q&A in the right forums. . . making them easier to search and easier to navigate.

To me any way...I was a newbie but I searched alot before figuring out where to ask questions.etc..In my opinion everyone here at one point was a newbie and the frequent postings have the effect of getting the pros pissed off with frequent postings ..but to me ...I go through the threads ..and if the posts are there I still look at them..some of the stuff I skip because I have already familiarized myself with it..so I continue my "SCAN"...The newbie postings ,I sometimes answer because I know the answer and I pretty well know the guy will get flamed by the ones who have "had enough of newbies"..Wasn't the forum made for owners for information?..Hare you gonna find out about the car if you get shipped to NEWBIE-VILLE"?..new guys telling another new guy what to do with his car, would not be helpful at all.!!.The mere idea of it (strictly my opinion..) would be like discriminating the new guy ..and treating him like he is on probation and be "worthy" (oooh..he has a TII let him post!)..We all started somewhere ..why not just let sleeping dogs lie?..if you don't like the thread you don't have to read it..it's not the only one..and it is your perogative whether to answer the guy or move on to something that sparks your interest...just my two cents on it..thanks for reading

So the newbies are going to sit in a newbie forum and this will somehow teach them to use the search function? No.
After the newbies have sat in the newbie forum for some prescribed length of time and then released they are now educated and know how to find answers? No.
Why won't a newbie forum work? Because you can bring a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

i know in the supra forums, you can't post your car or anything for sale unless you have a X amount of posts, which i think that's a good idea, because then you dont have people with one post trying to sale a car and you question yourself if this guy is serious or a joke, my $0.02. good idea though FDNewbie
