yellow 7...kinda

well in my search for a 3rd gen 7 i came across this car.
http://www.trader.ca/powerpage/detai...8&adid=5655176

its a 93 base green/black with 40000 km's. not exactly what im looking for but i figured it couldnt hurt to check it out. so when i got there i noticed that the paint job was kinda sub-par (the colour itself was good but a kind of sloppy job. ex: some on the window). so i decided to ask what happened to it and he told me that the previous owner bought it when it was yellow but didnt like the colour so he painted it green. i checked under the hood and in the trunk and sure enough it was yellow. the dealer said he could paint it back to spec, but of course thats gonna cost more. anyways other then that, the car ran really good and was in pretty good shape.

anyways, i heard that the yellow 7's were a somewhat desired car, so i just thought i would point this one out in case anyones interested, and doesnt mind spending a little on a repaint.

p.s.: when i questioned what model of 7 it was the dealer told me that there was no R1/R2's in canada, only the base and touring models. i was wondering if anyone can either confirm or deny this.

edit: sorry for the double post. glitch on the computer.

Well, CYM was never a CDN colour, so it's imported (US) , or it was a different colour previously, and painted CYM then repainted Montego Blue.

are you sure there was no cym's in canada? im asking just cause the engine bay and spare tire area was yellow, which would mean that the car had to be stripped down to be painted yellow. and then someone else painted montego blue on top of that. its possible but alot of useless work. other then that it seemed really good, ran fine and nice low km's.

the only thing i noticed, and i saw this on a couple other 7's i test drove, was when it was idling, the rpm would waver slighly from around 800-400 and back. i searched this on the forum and it doesnt seem to be anything serious, just thought i would point it out.

but yea, if it wasnt for the fact that im trying to haggle with another dealership over a 95, i would pick this car up in a second (after the appropriate paint job, of course). so im hoping if i cant get the other one this will still be available, but if not, i thought i should at least point it out to my fellow canadian 7 fans.

To many odd things about that car would scare me. Nismo is correct, we never recieved any CYM here, so if you do see one it has been imported. If it was a CYM that makes it a R1, did it have leather or cloth? Its missing the R1 front lip and rear spoiler and i cant tell by the pic if it has a sunroof or not. Also if this many things have been changed with out even seeing this car whos to say that the speedo was not changed cause 40K is low!

This dealer seems a bit off key being a Mazda dealer as he is wrong, we did recieve touring, base and R1. The only thing is the R1 here were called 25th anniversary ed in 93 instead. it came with the dual oil coolers strut bar etc. Also his ad says 93 but with dual air bags which a 93 did not have so tell him to get his adds straight before he tries making a sale

cheers

yea the dealer definitely did not know that car at all. i had to spend 5 minutes just pointing out that the 7 came in different packages (base, touring, r1). the odometer was in km's which would mean it had to of been changed if it was from the states, wouldnt it? the interior was cloth as well. there was no sunroof or sound system so it wasnt a touring it was clearly not an r1 so it could of only been a base model.

there's some CYM in quebec.... i know two of them, and they are canadian cars, not imported ones. Canada did receive CYMs back in 1993. Actually, cym is the most rare color for an FD. The two canadian cym fd that i saw were base models.

Wankel is correct. Canada did have the option to have CYM on FD's back in 93. It was a very limited colour. I remember seeing 3 in total around the GTA area. The only 1 I know for sure is a real CYM is the 1 I see every year show up for the Ottawa Cruise. What a fantastic colour!
Now adays it's almost impossible to find a real CYM. Many people repaint them.
Or you can see a CYM but it'll be imported from the States. Making it an R1.
You definately have to look up the VIN number to make sure it's a real CYM.

CYM and Pearl White( I think that's what they called it...) are the rarest colours on the FD.
Another rare FD is the 25th Anniversary that Mazdabation described. The only R1's Canada got disguised as "anniversary" cars. Only come in Black.

Cats were soo cloged they were glowing from just idling. Bolts and nuts missing from turbo assemble, oil leaks everywhere, coolant leaks, hard starting, high idle, what else ohh ya smokes...thats all i thknk of now...oh ya inside smells like ***!

just a heads up
if you want any info about that car and the scammers i mean dealer your planning on buying that from pm me.

Did you talk to the owner's sone Nick, or used car salesmen Mike? I know all of them.

I had actually called about this car as well. I was pretty surprised with the price in the Trader, so I decided to give them a call. I had to pull the whole paint color fiasco out of him, and this kind of left me feeling uneasy. As well, I found the price to be quite low for such a low mileage FD that was supposed to be in such "great" shape. Anyway, just thought I'd let you know about my experience... it was good to know that it had been checked out. Any luck with that '95? If its the one I think you're talking about it seems to be pretty good... however you never know! Good luck with the FD hunt! BTW the sales guy at Westowne that I spoke to was named Mike Pantos I believe. Is that the Mike that's been referred to? He seemed pretty unknowledgeable and nervous on the phone.

Just my $0.02

I took that '95 ( its in guelph) for a drive a coupe weeks ago .... it is sweet and fabulous shape .......... but just too much money for me, story i was given was a doctor in toronto traded it for a NSX (wife wouldn't let him have both). But if i could just order up an FD , that would be it , the silverstone paint was excellent and black interior pretty well unmarked

That is the mike i was refereing to he is the Used car sales man manager. That delership doesnt know anything about rotaries and are only out to make a buck. I am the only one that checked out all the rotaries that came through that garage while i was there. That one was the worst kept of them all! there was 2 very nice ones there however! one 93 with 20k on it since brand new and it was black!

That silver one is pretty pricey, but good conditioned FD's seem to demand a high premium these days. I had looked at one at Downtown Mazda (their customer's car), it was a '93 base model and they wanted $32k for it. It only had 24000kms and was like new inside, but I found that too high. I next saw one in Alberta when I was there for a wedding. This one was a beauty. It was a '94 fully loaded touring edition, red with glass moonroof and some type of apparently "factory" chrome rims? He had the original receipt from the purchase in '94 and the rims were actually on the invoice. Needless to say it was mint (only 32000 kms on this one), but he wanted $33.5k for it! So, it seems the one in Guelph would be pretty much on par with their value (I think its just under $30k) but it's still pretty expensive! On the other hand the FDs are such fantastic cars!!! I love my RX-8 but I still cry when I see an FD!!
