As per the York Region Police E.R.A.S.E. website:

"There is no restriction on window tint or colouring on rear windows as long as there are side mirrors providing a clear view to the rear. A driver must have a clear view out of the front windows and the windshield and a police officer must have a clear view in."

HTA 73(1)(a) – Window obstructed / Windshield obstructed - $85.00/$110.00

HTA 73(3) – Colour coating obscuring interior - $85.00/$110.00

Wow. That definition is ambiguity at its finest. So basically, it's the cop's opinion.

Good thing you need good eyesight to become a cop in the first place, otherwise it would be non-stop tickets.

Generally speaking, you shouldn't have a problem with 15%-20% transmittance. Much lower and you're in the "danger zone"

No experience with tint shops up your way, sorry.

The only thing that I could suggest is going to a shop (once you find one) and have them lay a few test sheets on your side glass to see. You'll get a better idea that way then from pics.

if you go darker in the back, it reduces a lot of light getting into the car so 20% on the sides will look darker than in the store . You don't need limo black on the back , but one shade down from that works well . I have that on the SA and it looks good, lets just enough light in the sides to see a driver is there

i just checked , i went 20% on back ( lower # is darker) and 30 % on the sides

this combo on a small car is still pretty dark as seen below . ( window is down in 2nd pic)

Limo tint is 10% or less

I think I have %15 on the quarter windows and hatch glass, and %20 on the two front windows. The only problem I have is at night I find it hard to see clearly through the rear glass. Anything dark or any unlit areas are very difficult to see.
