This is Why I Like Pictures

My car just hasn't felt right for a few years. It seems fine, it handles well, but something is just off. So I was very happy to see these shots from the Sigma Event at TMP. I have kept the car at the same ride height, but how it is reacting to throttle inputs has changed. The first 2 are before shots and the second 2 are after shots. Substantial differences. The car used to lift at the rear under hard acceleration or when it was taking a set into the corner, now it is squatting. It feels so good to go back to handling issues as compared to getting it to run clean issues, LOL.

I now have to figure out what has changed. I have a good idea, but I want to know so its tear apart time for the rear suspension.

Is the car jacking down in the rear - eg., rear rebound damping set too high? I'm assuming your shocks are double adjustable.

That is the first thing I thought of as well, but the car isn't jacking down, its squatting under acceleration. The shocks are single adjustable Koni's. I am putting doubles on the car this summer. The squat is only under accel and the car lifts after you get off the throttle. What is odd is that the car is using the same springs in all the shots as well. The only difference is that in the second shots, the rear bar was disconnected ......... hmmmm.........

I really need to put that back on again. I have gone from a thick rear bar in the first 2 shots to a modified stock bar, to a completely disconnected rear bar when the last 2 shots were taken. I am shocked that the rear bar could have that much effect, even in a straight line. It is the only difference. Even the shock settings are very close. I would not expect that kind of effect at all. I need to put the big rear bar on again and go back and test.

23racer,

I've called AWR and they have a complete double adjustable suspension and remote coilover for the rears etc etc. Custom valved for the weight of the car and springs as well as shorted to fit the FC. All bilsteins. Maybe give them a call and see what they can do? They have had great success in the states and have even supplied mazdatrix with their suspension for the mazdatrix EP race car etc.

I myself still trying to figure out what to do with suspension. The HSD coilovers are reasonable priced but who knows if they are optimum. I need to change the rear coilovers as they attach VIA solid Delrin bushing which should really be a bearing or stock rubber.

Ian, thanks. I already have a set of new triple adjustables that are going on the car shortly. Just need to weld up the strut mounts and we are good to go. They are custom made Morris dampers and should do the trick. The best thing is they were free spares with my Cougar. Free is good, LOL.
