Who's a Machinist?

Hey guys, I'm in the planning stages for rebuilding my differential. The FSM calls for a 7.3" measurement with a micrometer. Does anyone have a 7-8" mic that would be willing to lend it, or vice up a semi-rebuilt diff for some measurements?

Thanks.

If it's only calling for a 7.3" measurement a vernier would be fine. What's the tolerance? If it's more than .003-.004" a vernier (and someone experienced) will do just fine. If you bring it by the shop I'll measure it for you if you like. How far are you from Barrie?

Whatever, let's not clutter his thread. Anyone that's used the measuring tools for any amount of time should be fine with a vernier to less than .004". I've been in the tool and die trade for 14+ yrs now (just in case you doubt my credentials). I'm not looking for a pissing contest just trying to help the guy out, a mic is obviously better but not always necessary. Peace.
