What's shipping like?

Hey,

I was just wondering if anyone's order'd from Mazdatrix?? What was the shipping like to Ontario?? Was it reasonable or was it worth more than the parts??

Thanx

Matt

It's pretty good, the only thing is you will get hit by the UPS customs/brokerage charges on the parts. My recent order was around ~$180 US, was charged ~$18US to ship.

Rule of thumb for shipping to Canada from the US is to avoid using UPS. They charge exorbitant brokerage fees.

If possible ask them to ship via United States Postal Service as they transfer the item to Canada Post resulting in minimal extra costs.

But regardless of who you use will have to pay that taxes on the declared value. you can ask to have the shipper declare a lower value but be mindful that if the item gets lost you are only going to get back the shipping charges and the declared value.

Some vendors refuse to use Uinted States Postal Service as it maybe more inconvenient for them to get to the US post office when a UPS guy/gal will just come to their door.

I only buy south of the border if the item is not readily available here or there are significant savings.

I just ordered 261USD worth of parts from MT and it was 20 bucks to ship, with 90 added on for brokerage, these were smaller items, but it should help you a little bit.

ON taxes and duties

Bah.. sometimes it feels like the taxes and duties is equal to the cost of the item you are bringing in. Its ridiculous..

Buying a 50$ item, paying 10 in taxes, 15 in duties.. nevermind shipping costs now a days.

USPS is great. UPS is *****. I ordered a set of stainless brake lines from Mazdatrix last year, they cost about $100. UPS arrives at my door and wants $110 in brokerage fees.

$110 in brokerage fees on $100 worth of parts. I'm never, ever shipping anything via UPS again.

Try to get them to ship things "gift" or " No commercial value" I bought 500 worth of tires and paid another 250 in duties. Tire Rack seemed cheaper.

It will be marked as a gift and will have to come by UPS because of its size!

USPS is cheaper but sometimes they loose/break ****.

UPS is great except for the brokerage.

FEDEX is a little better.

DHL is the best but no one ships with them.

I've had a few problems with DHL, including a lost plane ticket and a package that they didn't broker correctly and came within a couple weeks of being destroyed. I had to register with the government as an importer and broker it myself to avoid that.

I could probably complain about all the other couriers except for FedEx, and I haven't used FedEx very much. I would avoid UPS at all costs. After that go with the company that has the office closest/most convenient to you, so that when (not if) something eventually goes wrong with things you mail order it will be easier to sort things out.

If you can avoid going with a courier and just using regular post that is even better, but most car parts will be too heavy for this to work. I've shipped many fragile things, sending and receiving, and never had a problem with the regular mail. It's slower, but I find there are fewer customs troubles too.

DHL has been good to me. USPS I just about love.

UPS cost me $227 in shipping, brokerage fees and taxes for shipping a set of coliovers.
