What colour silver for my RX&
I have a 85 SE that I am going to be painting in the next couple of weeks. My car is now charcoal and I'm going to do a colour change to silver, but I'm not sure what colour silver, if anyone has any ideas on a silver or pics that would help me out.

The 240 Mercedes has a beautiful silver. Its so silver the car almost looks like bare metal. If you're not sticking with an original I'd have a look at that one. I think you can build a car on their website and see what it looks like....

Dude, mine is "Sunbeam Silver" (K3 I think?) and I love it.
But if I was doing a colour change, it would be to that "tender blue" colour... halfway between silver and blue. Awesome colour.

I have painted 3 different cars silver. I was unhappy with how all of them turned out except for a Mustang I painted in VW Beetle Silver. Paint chips really don't give you an idea of what you'll get, so I would pick a factory silver colour that you can observe on a whole car.
Id just like to add to this discussion a little pet peave of mine...
Mazda silver
Porsche Silver
Ford Silver
BMW silver
*really* they are same sh&t different pile in FACT...arctic Silver From mazda - damn near the same tinting bases as a Velvet Silver from Benz...many many more cases of this as well.
There are really only a couple benefits to picking a factory colour over a chip - Lawyer's Spirit mentioned one - the other is that its easier to match down the road.
There are really only two things to decide upon with a silver...flake size and tone
Meaning fine metallic, medium or coarse (those are the only three, actualyl 4 one is just another combo of medium and coarse that ANY silver are made from)
and Tone is just whether you want straight silver,(touch of blue) titanium (a touch of gold/red/ in there) dark (touch of black) those are really the few parameters to pick from the rest are simply VERY VERY finite variations of combos of the basic three

Right.. now that I have the reference guide in front of me, my vote still goes to:
1979-1985 K3 Sunbeam *
(referenced from rotorhead.ca)
Now what classicauto mentioned is interesting... "touch of blue" sounds so cool in silver... I'll have to keep that in mind. It would have to be so slight that you wouldn't notice it comparing to the unpainted engine bay, but that you would notice if you put my car beside a stock one
