Wastegates! What do you think?

Hey guys. I am gathering parts for a TII swap into a 1st gen rx7. I have a wastegate question.

Do you think different brand wasgates (dumped externally/screamers)have higher or lower tone levels? I have to friends that have turboed GSR integra's. One has a turbosmart and the other has a turbonetics & both of them are vented to the atmosphere & are the same size. To me the turbonetics sounds way louder than the turbosmart.

What do you guys think?

P.S. I want a screaming wastegate.

Synapse wastegate,

I would not vent it to the air if I were you but it's your money.

Yeah, venting to ATM gets old FAST. Ask RavenBC.

I had a "screaming wastegate"(TURBONETICS) on my 323 GT Turbo and I loved it & I want the same for my rx7. That's why I wanted to know what's the loudest on a rotary motor.

I've never heard one in person (on a rotary).

I dont think they design the wastegates with loudness in mind.

What would play a rolle in how it sounds would be the positioning of the wastegate ( where on manifold it is ) . and probably size.

But over all I would probably invest in a good wastegate. And dont worry on the Rx7 there all loud and nasty.

+1 for plumbing back into exhasut. but if you like that AT then go for it.

Personally, I like the atmospheric dump. That way people think I'm always in boost when I let off the throttle haha

But it can get to be annoying after a while. Its really whatever you prefer, if you're the type who DD's a 7 with full, straight through single exhaust....then go for it!

But size/positioning will be the biggest factor in noise levels between setups, so go accordign to your preferences.

And FWIW, I read somewhere that plumbing the W/G back into the exhaust can rob power....but short of my own dyno proof - I don't believe it.

I liked it but there were times when I wished it was quite.

I have a trust 50mm on my car and leaked a tiny bit at idle/driving around, enough to make the car sound like ***, so I plumbed it in.

I did not like the sound of it on my rx7 open dumped... sounds better pumbed in IMO.

my DSM however has an open dump and it sounds awesome! Car is very quiet before the WG opens and loud as hell once it does (at 25psi hehe)
