Want to lose $5600 US?

So I was looking on the internet for a car to replace the pickup when I came across this ad for an '04 Rx8 with lambo doors/turbo/suspension/wheels/ignition/xbox///etc...

All for $5600 US and near me.

So I send an e-mail and the next day the ad is gone, so I figure it was a couple of guys pulling a prank on a buddy and forget the whole thing. That is until tonight when I get this email:

Hello there,

Thank you for your interest in my 2004 Mazda RX-8 Lambo Doors TURBO. The final price I'm looking for it is 5,600.00 US Dollars.
From the beginning you have to know that the car is in Berlin, Germany. It will be shipped from here at my expense so you don't have to worry about that. The car will be shipped with Lufthansa Delivery and will come with the title and all the paperwork needed to register the car under your name. The car will arrive in 5-7 working days and will arrive at your home...
For the payment i will like to us Escrow, because we will be both protected.

Let me know if you have more question about how to make this transaction or about the car.

Best Regards !!!

Wow, major alarm bells are going off in my head. It's totally a scam, I mean why not sell within Germany?

tell him you are attending a biker meet in germany shortly and would like to view the car in person, and you'll bring cash.

there was an ad like this on ebay a couple years back now..... it was for a highly modified fd....guy wanted 2900 us for it.....says it was his sons car that he lost in the war and he couldnt bear the site of the car (cause it remindend him of his son)
so i inquired about it....guy would only accept western union....so i asked him if i could come down and pay him in person....after that i got no reply and the listing was removed from ebay
go figure

yep
there's literally thousands of scam ad's out there every day.

I just ignore them... if the price is /way/ too good to be true, then it's a scam

Well then, here we go:

Wonderful,

I'll be in Teltow for a club meeting in a few weeks, so I can come see you. In the meantime, a few members of the local chapter will be coming to see you, to put your mind at ease as to my intentions with you. They'll be stopping by soon I hope, I have emailed them all the important information about you.

Looking forward to seeing you

Dom

PS: can you send me some pictures.

kijiji.com?
there was a laguna seca blue m3 for 6400
he was in spain but the car was in arizona in a storage space that he had.
I couldnt go down and see it cause the lock is broken and he is not there but if I sent him 6400 he would call the storage company and tell them to open it for me and he'd mail me the paper work......I told him I marked his ip down and gave it to ebay.

I assumed the address is bogus, as is everything else. Why would you assume the scamer has given one bit of truth at all???

I think that I'll ask him how to escrow the money now, just for fun.

And moments later:

Dear Martin,

I understand you but this is how i want to do.
The car it is at Lufthansa Cargo and it will be shipped with them. They are affiliated with Escrow and i want to use them for the payment. It's the same deal...you will make the payment to Escrow Purchase Protection Lufthansa Cargo and i will ship you the car. I will get the money after you get the car. I think this is the best way to close this transaction....For that i will need you full name and address (where to ship the car). After you give me these details i will register you at them and i can send you a tracking number to see that the car it is at them....

Please send me your full details if you agree with me, and let me know if you have more question.

Best Regards !!!

I looked up this guy's name and it appears that it's a girl!

And with regards to Lufthansa Cargo shipping cars, it's kind of a moot point, since there is no car... But I guess I'll have to play along...

Ok, seriously.

THIS IS PROBABLY THE OLDEST INTERNET SCAM, next to the nigerian millionaire, this has got to be the oldest scam.

I didn't double check the address since there are apartments downtown and I thought I recognized the area from pictures that were posted of the car.

Anyways, I've been so overworked on so little sleep that I haven't toyed around with this low life.

I did notice another post on kijiji for a BMW priced well below market and with about the same address. The giveaway is the US funds part and then the out of country story when you email them...

Oh well, whatever.

The car is in British Columbia. I will tell you about that. If we make this transaction thru eBay Purchase Protection, you will have 7 days to test the car, drive and inspect it. You the car it's not like i've said or you don't like it you can reject it. Let me know if this is ok with you and we can move forward. Thanks
