Towing Question

So, I need to go pick up my new (to me) SE. Was going to use a U Haul towing dolly as I don't have Class Three hitch, but U Haul says if towed vehicle is front engine, rear wheel drive, then drive shaft needs to be disconnected (unless a VW Beetle?) What do you think? The cost to rent an auto trailer isn't the problem, just that I would need to borrow/rent truck as well.

Should I avoid at all costs using dolly if I don't want to disconnect drive shaft? Need to go about 120 km.

A tow dolly uses a class II hitch???

That doesn't seem right.

the vehicle he is towing with might not be enough to tow the 2000 lb trailer plus a 2600 lb car..... i know when i wanted to use my ford explorer to tow the SE they wouldnt let me.... rent a flat deck trailer or landscape trailer from a small rental agency around your area.... they dont worry about ratings too much.....

If the car is man-trans, there is really no need to disconnect the driveshaft. UHAUL is just protecting themselves from lawsuits from people who tear up transmission pumps.

If you want to be belts-and-suspenders about it, jam the clutch pedal to the floor while towing.

I think that the Ford issue has to do more with roll-overs than tow ratings.

Thanks for the input

Thanks guys. My '02 Pathfinder wasn't the issue. They would allow it if Class Three hitch. Found a neighbour with same Pathfinder with Class Three and we're going to trade for the day. All is good. Thanks again for the replys.
