Toronto Star article on RHD in Ontario

Since many of the 7 owners in Canada are RHD owners, I thought I'de post this article. In light of the recent ban in Quebec, many are worried about a trickle effect into Ontario.

This article will help put some of the myths to rest. The end has some primary info straight from the MTO and RIV about RHDs and importation laws for Ontario.

RHD on North Am roads is just ridiculous. It puts the rest of the LHD driving population at risk. Left hand turns at traffic lights, and passing on 2 lane roads are simply hazardous. There's no arguing this. It's nice that there are other interesting vehicles available from Japan, but their limiting factor is RHD. They should be banned in Ont., and everywhere else in Canada for that matter. Even the Postal Service shouldn't be driving them. Why don't their vehicles just have a seat fitted on rails that can slide laterally across to the other side of the vehicle on demand?

Maybe because the government didn't see it as a problem?? I also think there are some other government vehicles that are RHD but we have already had this debate in another thread.

^^Mr. Eccentric: The alleged unsafeness of RHD is a tired topic, yet RHD and LHD mix freely on European and British roads. Besides, how often does anyone get to pass on the left in this country, where the slow and unsteady drivers immediately gravitate to the left lane so they can follow the guard rail or the yellow line and not have other cars whizzing by on the driver's side? And where most of the time if I'm in a left turn bay, in my 7, or my Passat, or my wife's SL2, I can't see jack because I'm facing a huge pickup or SUV in the opposite turn bay, so I have to wait until the light turns red to clear the intersection in order to be sure no one's coming from the opposite direction anyway?

RHD vs LHD might have some relevance to safe passing or turning left, if any rules of the road besides speed were trained and enforced here, and if every second vehicle wasn't a truck or SUV (actually around 60% in Calgary and Alberta generally, but big urban trucks are a badge of redneckness here!).

Put a backup camera in the left side mirror and the display to the left of the gauge cluster. Passing and left turn problems now solved for a couple hundred bucks over the price of the car. I drove a recycling truck around London for 6 months, and never had a single problem turning left. Never had a problem passing either, but that's simply because the rust bucket didn't have the guts for it.

Theres a JDM shop in mtl, that can import LHD skyline front clips. I think they get them from dubai or some other M.E. country.

He said a GTR LHD front clip would be R32 would be 4-6k wich i think is alot in a way as you can get a full car for $8-12 k GTR but hey then you have a sweet awd LHD machine and spare motor .
