ah I miss her.
Being in front is not always good. First to be spotted by the oinkers. Better to be a few cars behind
But, in Will's case it was bad news, judging by his stone chipped bumper...
But, we expect nothing less than hardcore driving from Derek and Jay anyway. They are the NA 31337!!!

yeah from what i saw i don't think too many people out there would be willing or able to drive like jay and dereck with their n/a fc's, It gave me a whole new appreciation to my turbo's to see the difference in exceleration, And to jay and derecks driving skill's, Although i personally think they have completley lost it, I saw some crazy skills and knowledge of their cars in my little time spent behind them. as far as turbo's are concerned i can't wait to have a car as fast as evil's although getting up in speed fast requires respect of your car and knowing what it's going to do.
Back from the dead ......
The Mazdaspeed6 does feel nice.
Completely different from my NA.
If I hit the gas in any of the first 3 gears, the car leaps.
Accelerating in 6th feels like 2nd in the NA.
Tq is king.

I would love to drive the car to it's full potential all the time, but buzzing 5-8k all the time is bad for my old age .... I've lost 15% of my hearing from driving it normally already.
i gotta think as soon as you start flaming your 7 for what its not , it time to get another one that has what you need .... drive that for a while and then when you get back in the older / slower /whatever one you'll appreciate it again. This happens to me everytime I park the vert and drive my 79 with the manual choke, push button radio, wind whistling though the dried out window channel and blazing <100 HP. .... I haven't joined the turbo 7 club yet , but it won't be a better drive , just a different one .
were only allowed one GF .... but you can have as many 7's as you want , old reliable, kinda fun or super hot. .... hey stop CRAPPIN' ON YOUR 7 !!!!!

Just different cars for different routes.
Folks for the Credit or Track = FC (don't care about comfort, pure hardcore)
Raising hell on hwy or street = MS6 (listening to jazz while pulling on a M3 without cops raising an eyebrow)

two options for that N/A FC of yours...
1) swap in a shorter final drive gear on the diff, like a 4.3 or something even shorter like a 4.9 or whatever they make close to 5.0, this will change your tq curve when graphed against MPH and will completely change the cars acceleration characteristics, in a good way.
2) do an LS1T56 swap... theyre actually relatively simple and inexpensive if you use a '98 or '99 motor and do the work yourself, it all fits under an n/a hood, has excellent fuel economy and reliability but still gets you a 350hp powerplant.

Wow, this is really a back from the dead thread.
"How to build a beefy NA" from the 2nd gen archive:

13 pages of discussion. There's other NA power threads in the archive too.
Assuming everything is working as it should be (eg, compression, 6 ports, ignition, fuel), first order of business and best bang for the buck: Exhaust - anything that opens the exhaust, NA's love (just like a turbo for that matter, but much more dramatic than NA piston engines). RacingBeat midpipe (assuming you don't have emissions testing) opens up about 20 fwhp - very noticeable, especially above ~5500, where the surge has made even people who know these cars mistake mine for a turbo - at least in first and second gears (there's no fooling anyone after that
). If you need a cat, get a humungous (like 2.5-3" in and out) performance cat and do custom big pipe to finish the mid section. The RB Y-pipe and mufflers are supposed to be good for even more if you can go complete system, but there's lots of performance exhaust choices out there.
Even before that, free up intake - K&N drop in, or probably better would be a cone, since apparently the stock airbox doesn't flow that well. You'd want to make sure a cone is isolated from hot engine-bay air tho. I didn't really notice much if any change with just the drop in, although it might be making more difference now since I added the exhaust later. There's also a lip inside the black plastic elbow that should give better flow once trimmed away.
Pineapple 6port sleeve inserts are supposed to add about 5-6hp by flowing air better, and if you were going that route, some porting of the intake manifold parts would be worth it while things are apart.
Electric fan will make a small contribution, since even with the fan clutch the fan still gets spun, just not full tilt, and rotating mass is always bad.
Speaking of rotating mass: stick with light wheels! That means aim for 15lb or less. So no 17x8's or the like - 15 or 16", light wheels. The BBS 15x6.5 sold on verts are 11lbs light - excellent choice, and great looking besides (I'd like to find a set for my r-compound track tires).
