Tire Sizing Question
Hey all,
I recently got some rims (FINALLY) for my car, a set of 5Zigen Copse 17X7.5 with a +43 Offset. I'm wondering whats the biggest size (with or without spacers) that i could fit on there? Specifically on the rear.
The tires I want to get are 245/55/R17's. I have a sweet deal where I can get them for 115/tire, for Yokohoma's
They will be on my 86 GX. I would just throw them on, and see what fits, but my car is about an hour drive away being stored. I should be bringing it back in about 2 weeks.
Thanks for the help,
Dan
p.s. Any winnipeg guys here bringing out their cars soon too??

unfortunately you won't be able to fit much up front, if at all, without a spacer. that offest and width just is too close to the stock suspension. you are going to need at least a 5mm spacer, which will let you run a 225/45 tire possibly. but more like a 10mm spacer would be a better bet.
on the rear, it should be fine up to a 235/40 or 45, but i don't think you could fit a 245.
the size you mentioned, 245/55/17, is a BAD size. first, putting a 245 on a 7.5 inch wheel is not a great idea, since that is pushing it a bit in terms of fitting on the wheel. second, a 55/17 profile is considerably larger in diameter, which will affect your speedo reading, decrease your effective gear ratio, and make your car ride higher.

awesome, thanks a lot. I had wanted the higher profile, because i wanted to fill up the wheel well, without having to lower it....but maybe i wont now. A 245/45/17 would fit bette? Right now they have 205's on the front, and i think im just going to leave those on.
Any my speedo doesnt work anyway so no loss there.
If i had a 5 mm spacer in the back, 245's should fit then?

245/45 is a lot better.
a 245 with a 5mm spacer might fit in the back, but i'm not quite sure. the problem is that in the rear the actual studs are not long enough, so even a 5mm spacer you might need longer studs for the lug nuts to thread on properly.
