To those who support Equal Marriage
Yes, THAT Equal Marriage.

I'm not posting this to spark debate. If you don't agree with the campaign, don't support it. If you must voice your opinion here, well... it's not like I can stop you.
I want to let people who support the legislation know that there is a convenient way to voice that support.

The debate over (Bill C-38) has begun. Time is now short before the second reading vote, a vote we must win, or the bill will die!
Canadians for Equal Marriage asks you to take 15 seconds to send an e-mail to all MPs. Just CLICK HERE to take action now.
The vote is too close to call. The Globe and Mail recently surveyed Members of Parliament. 139 MPs said they would vote in favour of legislation and 118 MPs said they would vote against the legislation, while 49 were undecided or would not state a position. Most of those undecided have now taken a position, both in favour and against, but it's still very close.
Many supportive MPs are telling us they are not hearing from our side. That makes it hard for them to stand up in Parliament and say they have the support of their constituents. ALL MPs need to hear from supportive constituents!

In the state of nature...all men are born equal, but they cannot continue in this equality. Society makes them lose it, and they recover it only by the protection of the law.

I'm mixed on the issue... Emotionally, my instinct is to oppose it, since it's not the definition of marriage that's been around for millenia and I like the whole man and woman union bit and wonder what society is coming to, but then rationally, I frankly cannot think of any good reason to oppose it, and doubt it will really change anything, except make many homosexuals much happier. Also looking at the bright side, more gay men in serious relationships will start wearing rings, so there will be less risk of me accidentally hitting on them
Now that I think of it, I guess my emotional hesitation comes from the purpose of marriage (family) and my belief that children are best off with both a mother and a father, not two mothers or two fathers, so when it comes to bringing children into gay relationships, I'm not too fussy about the idea...

As this summary will show, the results of existing research comparing gay and lesbian parents to heterosexual parents and children of gay or lesbian parents to children of heterosexual parents are quite uniform: common sterotypes are not supported by the data.

Amur:
Did you just google, read a bit, then post or did you actually read each article?
One is saying that children of homosexual couples are more likely to explore homosexuality, the other is saying the opposite. One is critizing many studies in terms of validity (which is a big deal). The other lists a sample size of 25, so the study in that article has serious reliability issues in addition to validity issues.
As one author put it, "It should be acknowledged that research on lesbian and gay parents and their children is still very new and relatively scarce." This means that the long-term affects in adult life have probably not been studied yet, since it's a relatively new research area.
I still think it's important to have a mother and a father. We see what happens to single parents, where the child is then lacking the influence of the missing gender. Single-gender parents can't fill that gap either. It's also important to learn about the opposite sex through a parent of the opposite sex, to prepare you for your adult life and own future relationship. I wouldn't mind seeing a REAL study conducted about that, no fluff with huge reliability and validity problems.
