Thanks Calgary area people

i have somehow feel i've been takin all the glory for how great the meet was. dont get me wrong, i LOVE a pat on the back but more than just me helped made it a success.

aviator 902s = brought hamburgers and buns

alak = arranged for the not rotary mazdas to be there

dont know who = brought chips and pop

the buddy Romel = would have sucked without him(drives a honda.. im workin on him)

everyone = showed up!

thank you for the help

i havent set a date yet, but middle of aug is what im aiming for. i hope i can really get people excited with the next meet as i have a couple ideas id like to see go forward. if you guys are willing to follow me. i think 2-3 meets per year is nice, this way its not reduntant, and give people a chance to catch the next one if they miss one. i think we are gonna have a few good years, as internet seems to make things easier

No, you deserve the credit, chev
I was a little choked that you buggered off before we could pitch in with some ca$h when we met in Cochrane.
We'll get even with you next time

I was just pondering a mountain run.

But reading about Sean's disdain for traffic congestion (I agree with him), and considering the length of the sunlit day, it might do well for us to consider a nice 4-5 hour run after work/school on a weekday instead of the weekend. I'm thinking something like Calgary - Bragg Creek - Turner Valley - Longview - Kananaskis - Canmore - Calgary with a photo stop in the mountains by a lake or sumthin.
One or more of us could do a scouting run to determine -odometer readings -muster points -octane ratings at the various pumps on the way -elapsed time for segments -etc.

Or am I talking out my ****?

I think a meet at big hill springs park would be cool. (NW of Calgary toward Cochrane off the 1A) . They have bbq pits and a great nature trail (for the ladies to keep in shape). We could then hit Cochrane for ice cream, then take the 1A cruise toward Kanaskis and return via Bragg Creek with a pit stop a bow falls. Meet at noon for the bbq, then a couple cruises with interesting breaks as well. How about mid July, nice time to get out of town when all the tourists are here. Gary

I'm game as long as it is not to far of a drive. Some of us live outside of Calgary to you know How long to you think the run would be Ed? I have to add 3-3.5 hours(to Calgary and back from Red Deer) onto the mountain run itself. I'm sure a couple Edmonton guys would be game as well...

Gray keeps telling me about this wicked road called Johnsons Canyon or something. He told me where it was and I'll check it out probably next week.

He said its a wicked single lane, one way road (no other traffic coming other way) and it ends at a restaurant. Its somewhere a little past banff.

Me and Chev have been working on some Ideas about the next 'BIG' Meet. Should prove really really awesome. You'll find out details in the coming months so dont ask.

ya the johnson lake road is pretty good. i use to live in banff. there are quite a few good roads in that area. the minewanka loop is another good road aswell as the tunnel mountain road. they are all pretty twisty roads with minimal traffic. but you do have to watch for the stopped traffic looking at wildlife.

You're talking about the Bow Valley Parkway, aka Hwy 1A - turns north off the main route about halfway between Banff townsite and the Sunshine exit. It is a beautiful road - continues past Johnston's Canyon up to Louise. A sweet piece of asphalt, it breaks off into separate narrow, single lane bits at several points - a delight to take at a rapid pace. I make a point of taking it rather than Hwy 1 -I like the south route more than the north - a little tighter and twistier.
The downside of being a narrow, twisty and partly single lane road is when you overtake plodding SUV's and RV's passing opportunities are hard to come by - then you get to stare at the fat backside of some doddering ninny who won't go over 30-40kms in the twisty bits, and who will gun it to keep you from passing on the rare straight stretch. But if you get to cruise the whole length at speed, that is heaven.
The Tunnel Mountain Road from the townsite back to highway 1 is nice too.
